Please post pictures of your tank!!

I wanted to share a picture of my tank with Calypso, Sparks & George in it! I am pretty happy with it, and they seem to love the hides and especially the fake and real plants.
Is that gravel in the (non-slate bottomed) tank? It looks lethal. And in the first (left-hand) photo, the lotl up on top of the rock arch looks like it's swallowed some. It is certainly in the constipated pose. Let's hope it's not impacted with gravel.
If I am wrong and it is my bad eyesight, I apologise. But if that is gravel, please get it out of your axie tank immediately.

I'm so confused now. I see many tank with jagged rocks or slate, branches, aquarium ornaments, plastic plants etc. I was told no jagged rocks or slate with corners because it could damage the axes skin. Also I don't see many aquariums with items restricting water flow. How are you cause keeping the water flow/current low? I thought they hated water movement and it caused stress. Especially water flow from powerful chillers. I had a heck of a time building in stuff to reduce water flow. Am I wrong on all these? Also live plants, don't they need a certain amount of lighting? I'm trying to keep the whole area around my tank dark. I'm so confused. Oh and how do you keep the sand clean without stiring it up making it cloudt. Plus my chiller pump is in the tank, dont want it to suck up sand. Please help me understand so I can make my tank more exciting.

Well it's because a lot of people are way too over the top about things. You can get rocks of any shape and (as long as it's big enough to not be eaten) size. Just sand down any sharp edges a little bit, it's no biggie. Water flow isn't really that big of a deal, so long as they aren't being flung around the tank constantly. I have lots of hides, rock caves/tunnels, barriers, plants etc and my canister uses a spray bar and a 991 gph pump, which obviously is a ton for a 50 gallon tank (like twice of what is needed) but with the spray bar and how many things are in the way of the current, it's very easy for my axolotls to find "dead spots" where the current isn't that bad.
As for plants, some plants do very well in low light situations. Rotala, anubius, crypts, java ferns, hornwort, crystalwort(riccia), and a bunch of others. These are the typical plants you'll find in an axolotl tank since they grow well without co2/fertilizer injections and don't need a ton of light.
With that being said, if you have as many hides in your tank as you probably should have, then light isn't the biggest deal. If you turn lights on and leave them on, the axolotls will hide when they need to, and come out when they're okay. They wouldn't just sit there in the light all day if it bothered them. Some axolotls get used to the light, some don't, either way they'll make sure they are okay.
And I don't know what kind of chiller can fit inside a fish tank but it sounds pretty crazy haha never heard of a submersible chiller.

I have a 39watt light on my axolotl tank, but also have a lot of water sprite that provides them ample amount of shade, i keep the other plants I have in the bright spots of the tank so they get more light and all my plants do good and my lotls very rarely hide when the light is on. I hate water movement more then the lotls I think, since I have a hob filter and I dont fill the tank to the top, the noise of the filter drives me crazy! So I have two lufas that break the water flow so I dont need to listen to it and dont need to worry about flow. I dont have a chiller so I dont know about the whole sand thing but when I clean my tank I just to siphon as close to the bottom as possible and let the sand settle back down before i move over, that way the sand isnt all over the place. It gets a little foggy but not for long.

About the sharp decorations etc, I can honestly say that sharp or smooth or invisible or non existent, an axolotl finds SOME WAY to always get little nicks and scratchs. At least mine do. Well toothless mostly, the rest dont, but toothless is always super active so it makes sense. As long as your water quality is good and the wounds arent serious, then there is no panic, its like a child scraping their leg. Ive only dealt with fungus once and it was not bad only took two salt baths and a nice black tea bath and he was good to go :)

I dont think there is issues with most tanks I see here. I think the basic guidelines are for beginners, and then as you grow more knowledgable about axolotls in general and your axolotls personally you can get creative in how your tank is setup.

Just cut my hornwort in half because it was getting really long, so I made two stems with it, and I took the anubius that was stuffed in foam in driftwood out because it was dying being smothered by the foam from the pet store, put them in some rocks and tied some riccia to my driftwood!

Sweetie, it's sand. These pictures are from last week and everyone is fine. :)

Please remove the gravel. It's dangerous and causes impaction and can be fatal. You may have gotten away without problems so far but why wait until it's too late? Bare bottom, sand or slate is recommended.

Here's my 300L tank and my two lotls. I'm currently waiting for a lot of new plants, very excited! takes time to fill all that space.

Good find on the copper! where did you get it from?

I got it from a breeder in Hunters Hill Sydney, I can PM you his details if you want, he had at least one other copper when we were there Saturday night.

Would be great if you could, hunters hill is only 30 minutes away :)

I just sent you an email with the details, I tried to pm but it said you don't accept pms :)

Champion :D thanks a lot. I saw a small photo of your copper on Instagram he's pretty cute!

All these pictures are awesome inspiration for setting up my tank! Thanks to everyone for posting them :D

I use a liquid fertilizer called Pro-plant made by Kent Marine. I use half the recommended dose twice a week.

Hey, I was just looking through all the tanks and saw this, I heard fertilizers are toxic to axolotls? True or false? I really want to get my plants propagated across my tank and the only way to do that is to get them growwwwing and while I can just wait it out I'd like to speed up the process if possible so please let me know thanks!

Ehhh yes and no. Axolotls are very VERY sensitive to anything you add to the tank. But as long as you keep on water changes and use a half dose or less, you should be fine. The question is, do you want to risk it?

I used to add a tiny bit of ferts, but my axolotl killed all my plants so I haven't had to worry about it!! Lol

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.
