Please post pictures of your tank!!

I just would like to get nice tips for a nice planted tank with no substrate with plants that axolotls dont like eating! One of my lotls eats duckweed, java fern, hornwort

The only plants ive found that my axies dont eat are elodea, anubias and marimo moss balls.
I also have pothos plants growing along the back of my aquarium with just the roots in the water (but resting on a shower caddy so my axies cant eat them).
Anubias is great as its quite thick and tough so even if they do get it in their mouths, they dont rip it apart, also it has quite a few different types, if you dont want it all to look the same :D

Aside form that all i can think is to get some shower caddies or tall glass jars and set the plants up in there, so theyre not just walking past them on the ground and eating them all the time :uhoh:

Thak you for the response! All I currently have is one anubias and a moss ball, so i will need to get more plants. I also have a pothos growing in a shower caddy as well lol.

As I get more shower caddies I will add more pothos. Love them. I have a pothos out of control in my living room so to root some more clippings is no issue.

Updated 33 gallon long tank

I'm happy to say that these plants seem to be doing really well. I have lots of java moss and some anubias tied to cork bark with invisible thread. The cork bark is held down by being siliconed to granite.

Wow that's a great tank! I like the lighting effect that leaves the center of the tank bright, with the rest dark. Seems ideal for the axolotl to be able to choose the level of brightness throughout the tank. Are those led lights you're using?

Thank you! And yep...they're led lights. The axolotls love the dark places to hide. And they hide most of the time...haha. I had to make the rest of the tank nice for me to look at since they are in the dark so often. :p

Here are my tanks! Enjoy~!

I made a new 10 gal to keep babies in when I got the itch after looking at my unfinished 75gal the other day. I ended up planting it with java moss and anachris then gave it away. picture quality varies greatly ;)

Ok so I hope this works.. first time attaching any photos :)

Not really much yet but couldn't wait to share my excitement! Nothing really in the tank besides sand (sorry about all the reflection) so it is a bit boring but it has been a long time in the making removing some old slate, installing a new textured background, figuring out to canister filter that has the worst set up instructions ever... It has been a pet project of mine and it is getting so exciting now it is so close to complete and soon I will be enjoying the company of awesome axies.

I now have the background installed, the sand washed and in the tank and the filter is running nicely :) Soon to be added, hides and plants and once cycled, two axolotls :)

So close now!! More photos once it is fully set up :proud:

Are you all using lids or some sort of mesh top on your aquariums?

nah, mine are open topped

This is my new tank for Peppa my lotl. I've had her for some years but have no idea of her age or gender :)

I'll be topping mine up some more but I just transferred to the new tank and didn't want to add too much new water straight away.

Sorry, I meant to direct the question towards EmbryH because of not having a screen or lid on the tank. Your tank looks nice and spacious though :)

I have an open tank as well and i normally give them about 13-14" of water height. I currently have a 50gallon that is 19" high so its tons of room. In my 25gallon it was 16" high but i never had any issues

Almost there :) Tank is beginning to cycle and so far so good. Won't be long now :)

Sorry for some reason the photo is upside down :-/

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
