Please post pictures of your tank!!

I have sand at the bottom so would occasionally (maybe once every 2 months) have a change round and clean the sand properly but dont want to stress the ax's thats all x

Yay :D finally moved the 4ft tank to somewhere I can enjoy it & take the towels away (there because the dog hates the lotls :( ) I bought the old tv cabinet on eBay for $10 & had intended on giving it a quick makeover - but we've had endless rain for over a week & I couldn't paint it so I stuck it in as is.

It's looking a bit bare as I'm sharing the plants around too many tank at the moment - also it's still running the old tanks overhead filter as well as the new hob filter. All axolotls seem to be enjoying it & I have a lot of guppy fry because I had to transfer the guppies while it emptied & moved.

Oh & it still isn't high enough to stop the dog being Nosey  lol grrrr

what are the vines that float on top of your tank called?

That looks so good - :) I like it!

How are you going to clean inside the hides? Are the lids all siliconed onto the hides?

<3 >o_o< <3
Thank you! It hasn't been a problem to clean so far...I just use a turkey baster. The setup is four separate pieces. The pieces that make up each piece are sealed with aquarium sealant (so worms and poo don't get in between the cracks). The bottom is one piece, the top is one piece, and there are two separate table-looking pieces. I didn't want to seal the entire thing together because I was afraid it would be too heavy for me to get in there without dropping it and breaking the glass.

I can post a picture of each separate piece if I can get my camera card to work again. I took pictures of it at different stages in case anyone wanted to see how I put it together. :)

New set up! He enjoys climbing on is homes as well as sitting inside :) i also wanted something really simple so this is what he got!

Looks cool

Check inside that log hide for any sharp joins & tunnels that he could get stuck in. I looked at one just like this & it had overlapped areas inside that an axie could easily get caught in & cut

Xoli's home

Hello everyone! This is such a wonderful thread, and I've seen some amazing ideas. I'd like to know what you guys think of this set-up. Any red-flags or ideas? I recently put in the sand and Xoli immediately seemed much happier than when it was just river rocks (though I might be projecting a bit). I was worried that he might have an impaction issue, though I hand feed or place food on the terracota bowl. What do you guys think?
The driftwood has some white fuzzy stuff growing on it, though I've read that it's normal and will go away on its own. Anyone know how long that takes?
I sponge filter and that seems to be one of X's favorite hang-out spots.
My biggest concern so far has been the lighting, I know Axolotls don't like bright lights but I have some low-light plants in there, and want them to be OK. They're Java fern on the wood and some anubias (one has roots that are buried into sand and the has a rhizome just weighing it on top of the sand). The 19watt bulb came with the tank and I was hoping I could use it.
The wooden "box" is actually something my wife made to house (hide) the fans and lamp I have on top of a mesh screen, but it's open on the top (and bottom obviously) to allow evaporation.

I know this is a lot, but any help would be appreciate, by me AND Xoli :D!!

Personally for that size axie I would leave it in a bare bottomed tank - it's easier to clean & to know what they've eaten.

Also at that size large grains of sand can be just like gravel - that tank is perfect for an axie 6" inches or more in length but for a little one it might be better to leave the sand out for a little while.

Great, thanks Nikki!
I'll remove the sand and leave it bare until X is older. Anything else you might recommend? The lighting or the fuzzy stuff. Does everything else seem OK?

Xoli's home: remodeled

I removed the sand and put in some slate tiles. Let's see Xoli try to swallow that!:p I left some sand in a glass pod where I rooted an anubia. He hasn't shown interest in it, but if he does I can just turn it so the entrance is blocked. Thanks for your help!

My tank needs finishing still, and cleaning after my cycles done! But here it is for now :)
And one of my axies hehe

Can any of you help me too, im finding it hard not to spill water on my cabinet the tank is stood on and was wondering what you could use to put under the tank to catch the water?
Do you guys use anything?

Might I ask what you are using for substrate? I have yet to come across a suitible black substrate so was curious what you're using ^_^

I actually drained out my tank and folded a puppy training pad to the size of my tank with maybe a millimeter or two showing around the edges of my tank after I put it back down. This way the pad absorbs the water dripping down the sides of my tank instead of my stand. Then I change it every now and then to avoid mold.

Honestly the best thing to prevent water damage would be to put 3-4 coats of polyurethane on your cabinet, then just wipe up after you've spilled. You should have something under your tank in either case - such as a piece of foam - to provide a buffer in case your cabinet top has any uneven spots or places that will cause points of pressure in your aquarium. Helps prevent it from accidentally breaking ^_^
I've juuust finished building my new aquarium cabinet, and I plan on putting 2 layers on mine (the stain was also a sealant so I don't need more)

So here are a few pictures of my setup! Yes, that is my very sad way of stopping current from the HOB filter. And hopefully my java plant will grab that rock soon enough. Currently cycling so no axies yet...:( I plan on adding some aquarium fans, a terracotta pot saucer for a feeding spot, a moss ball, and eventually some floating plants! What do you guys think?

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.
