Please post pictures of your tank!!

I'm hopefully getting a couple of axolotls this month, so here is my tank setup! It is currently being used to house 4 otocinclus catfish, some guppies, and ghost shrimp.

I love your tank set up. Very nice! Once you add an axolotl, I would add more plants for them, but otherwise it's just lovely!

Also, pictures of my tank finally! I still haven't worked in my little wooden log; I couldn't stand the murk.

Excuse the magical floating hands >.>

I'm so glad I was finally able to get a 20gal! He's grown to be 9.5 inches, so his old 10gal was getting cramped @_@

Here's my newly set up tank. Any ideas to make it a little more exiting for my little man would be appreciated! Excuse Vincent being unsociable lol

REMOVE HEATER!!! URGENTLY!!!
Unless you live in Iceland

Axolotls are a cold water animal 16-18degC is perfect and heating is usually not needed!!

Those pretty diamond gem things are also swallowing hazards (axies can eat things almost as big as their heads 0.0)

Cute axie too - even unsociable they're adorable :)

Just wondering Tess or anyone for that matter, Do your Axies like or use the floating log?? I have thought about these but have always shyed away because they float and are at the top.

My baby likes his, but only uses it sometimes! He generally likes camping out inside the 'pots' decoration I got him, or in the plants. If I have the light out he's far more inclined to swim up to the log to hang out :)

Here's an updated pic of my tank :)

I put them together using a divider
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357770887.090353.jpg

I fed the smaller one heavily 0.0 hoping it would catch up - the axies hatched within a week of each other but the smaller one had to regenerate a new front leg & it didn't grow as fast.
After 2 weeks of feeding I measured & compared the 2.
ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357771016.175242.jpg

Heads are now comparable width - the torsos are the same - the length difference was only tail length...

Soo the decision was made to remove the barrier - as well as a slight redecoration & inclusion of escape routes & hides. All with very close observation of course. (& some nail biting)

From side

I wanted to create a raised area to rest up high for them so I included a glass & fishing line tied the driftwood to it..

So far so good - they've passed each other with no incident. & each seems very happy :)

Yikes! Just realized how the barrel dwarfs the tank and makes it look teeeeeeny! Heres a picture of the size of my Axies in comparison to the tank so not to worry anyone!

I'm not sure if you've read about the risks of gravel in tanks for axolotls - but it is a major cause of very serious problems even death as it builds up in their gut & blocks them.

Please remove the gravel & either leave the tank bottom bare - or just simply add a very fine sand (not beach) just a sand pit type sand or pool filter sand.

Have a read of the topics gravel raises its head many times :( & mostly doesn't end well.

This is my tank, he loves walking across the bridges. However, he mainly walks across the back bridge, it must be better!

Here is our Axolotl tank which is 200L, the pictures taken on the 14th are when we where setting the tank up, and the others are from today the tank has 2 filters running the built in tank filter with a air diffuser on it and the eheim, also are three hides, three real plants, four fake plants, 9 large stones scatted on the bottom and a feeding dish, also got a digital thermometer which I think is broken (as even in the fridge it doesn't go down past 22c) at the minuet we have two axolotls Axle and Nugget,

Snuggly Time, I would take the heater out as its not needed in a axolotls set up as they like water that's between 16 - 20c

Don't worry, it's set to 18c, the water hasn't risen higher than that yet. The pet shop we bought him from had him at 24c, so we put it on and brought them temp down gradually :)

Don't know if a sudden temperature change affects them, but I didn't want to risk it. We will take it out in summer when the room is much warmer :)

Dropping the temp down from the 24deg to actual room tank temperature would be fine over a 24hr period.

They prefer cool water - so removing the heater now would allow for the little one to get used to seasonal temperatures. Holding it at 18 is probably not ideal.

Please take it out - heaters fail & can do terrible things when they do! I have a tropical tank with heater on 25.5 & on Friday morning my thermometer was reading 29.5 & the heaters light was on - so potentially it could've kept malfunctioning & cooked up my tank!
Tropical fish can handle it but I'd hate to think what that would've done to an axie!

That's so true! I've been on every day reading up about axolotls. The pet shop said they are beginner level, but I don't think this is true. There's a bit more to them then adding water and sticking food in the tank lol.

The improved tank! Never seen him sat on the plants that high up before lol

My 40 gallon tank for my two axies. I've been mourning my lack of live plants, and thought I could never have them (besides my marimo balls) because I don't use substrate, but I've seen a couple tanks with potted plants, which is an awesome idea! If anyone has any tips on how to do this, which plants work best etc... I'd greatly appreciate it. And of course, any tips of how to approve the aquarium are also very welcome.

(p.s. I'm sorry for the lack of picture quality and their enormous size- If I knew how to make those nifty thumbnails I certainly would!)

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. Had a question that I just want to be sure of. My marbled newt is a little over a year old and has started to develop and I noticed that he is starting to swell a little below his abdomen. I guess I’d like to know if they are his testes or if I need to be concerned.
