Nice tank, but I would not use that kind of substrate with axolotls.

My tank - updated now with 3 lotls :)

My tank, with my two axies hiding in a corner :p The lecustic is a female named "Smiley" (my fiance's) and the melanoid (we think) is Fury (my baby), still too young to determine gender.

❤ Love it!!! That's a cool tank!
Did you silicone down the granite tiles?

<3 >o_o< <3
Thank you!! I've made some changes since then, and I'm even liking it better now. :) Will post another picture on here. The granite is not sealed to the bottom. But it is very heavy and nothing seems to be getting under it (I checked a few times).

It is placed so that the rough side (not the extra smooth side) is up, and he seems to be much happier having that than just with the bare bottom. (Maybe that's just me projecting that I like it better...haha...but he runs around on the bottom a lot more than he used to!)

o_O stunning!! I love what you did to the bottom... mind telling us how you did it/what you used??
Thank you!! I'd love to share.....I'm really happy with the way it's turned out (after doing and re-doing the tank too many times)! He seems really happy with it, too. I'll type something pretty thorough up and post it on here soon. :)

This took a lot of work, but it's finally finished!!!

That looks so good - :) I like it!

How are you going to clean inside the hides? Are the lids all siliconed onto the hides?

My current set up :) It's a 40 gallon breeder aquarium with 3 four inch axies, 6 guppies, and ghost shrimpies. Lots of plants too.

Some really cool set ups on this thread
Just a quick question when you have a change round or a proper tank clean do you transfer your ax's? and if so how long do they have to stay in their other tank for before putting them back in?x

My current setup:

tephra-albums-dweeby-derpy-picture27250-tank-setup.jpg

Bottom is 120cm x 50cm. Height is 60cm, they have no trouble swimming up if they have to.

Recently installed a chiller (which is working wonders, I tell you...), still have to think of a way to hide its pump :p

Tank currently houses 4 axolotls.
And look at that, Dopey's saying hi in the corner over there :)

What do you mean with a proper tank clean? I scrub the glass, maintain the plants, clean the sand and filters and do water changes all with them in there constantly. All you have to make sure of is to always switch off all equipment before you do a water change, and to gently push your axies out of the way when you siphon dirt off the sand.

Transferring axies often seems to cause them more stress than necessary. Of course, if you don't have a cycled tank, I suppose it can get rather difficult, seeing as you need to change water a lot more.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
