Please post pictures of your tank!!

If anyone needs an ugly tank to look at then here's mine.

I cringe even looking at it.

Ahhh my juveniles' tank. Just got them plants today so I'm pretty happy with the set up.

Their new setup.....they seem to be loving it. Mortimer hides under the granite when the light is on, so you can't really see him in this picture. The leucistic stays on the second level a lot. I'll try to catch them posing soon. :)

Ooh, this is really interesting. Is that an All Pond Solutions HOB?

I like the cooling fan set-up. Can you please tell me about your lid as well? :) I'm getting a 36x15x12 inch clear seal tank and am coming up with ideas for a lid. Sharon's already shown me a top-view of her's!

Had a move around in the tank tonight...cleaned it out and did a 50% water change. It looks a little murky but I did stir the sand thoroughly before putting all the accessories back in. Am trying the jam jar tactic for feeding in the hope this will keep the mess of excess food down a little bit. Not sure if the little ones will take to it, but they did get used to feeding from the shell quite quick.....all crossed.

Hey Sharon

Where did you get those granite hides? Or where did you get the materials to make them? They are awesome!

Hey Rupert! Thanks. I was pretty obsessive about building them something I really liked (and I thought they'd like). I bought the pieces of granite at a local place that sells recovered (and new) landscaping rocks and all kinds of tiles, slate, countertops, etc. They had bins of different sized pieces, ranging from tiny to huge. I probably spent close to $50 on a bunch of pieces, some of which I didn't end up using. Then, I just used aquarium-safe silicone and let the pieces cure for a few days. I think I posted a thread on here a while back with more detail (or I'd meant to). My axolotls really seem to like the shelter the granite provides, and I like it that it adds a second level. If you're looking into getting granite, make sure to get some that is a lighter color. I've read that the darker the granite, the more likely there will be problems with leaching.

Here`s ours:

150 x 50 x 60cm, approx. filled with 400 litres (100 gal).

I especially enjoy the webcam (on the left side of the tank), because our axies are quite "communicative" - even at night...:D

Our filter is an HMF-type. To keep the temperature below ~20°C, we use additional fans on the top of the tank.

Thought I would add an update being as I have changed the tank slightly. There are now 4 cooling fans and a small airstone (totally overall cooling now at 5.5 degrees C (my other tank is at 23.5 degrees this one is 18). I have also added something for them to walk on which they seem to like (a large piece of filter foam)

Yeah sure no problem. Yes it is an all pond solution (not sure what HOB means though). The lid is the standard glass lid that cam with the tank (You can't see it very well on the picture) just 2 pieces of glass that slide across. The fans are mounted into a piece of old table that I cut down and then used an 80mm hole saw to create the hole for the fan to blow through. I then just cut the ends of the wires and soldered them to a 12v supply. My total cooling is now 5.5 degrees C

This is great! I bet it would cool down even more with a mesh top. (Or maybe I'm wrong!)

Im not sure to be honest. My idea was to create fast moving air across the top of the tank a bit like a wind tunnel causing high evaporation (on warm days i can lose about 5 ltrs of water). If u disturb the fsurface of the water it increases the rate of evaporation. Only one way to finnd out I guess :) I may have to find some mesh

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
