Who have you met?

For caudata.org people I've met Michael S., Ed K., Paris, Pin Pin, and maybe a few others that I cannot remember at the moment. I have talked to Dawn and Kaysie on the phone. Justin (greatwhitehunter) and another fellow in Dublin, VA (sorry but I cannot remember your name) actually live close by but we have not met yet.

I've met lot's of "famous" herpers, breeders, and authors that frequent the various shows over the years. My other hobby is martial arts practice and I have met lots of well known martial artists over the years in addition to a few minor celebraties. I am still waiting to meet Elvis though....

Chip

I have met no one, called no one and I don't think I've met any famous herpers. Do I win an award for most unconnected moderator/1K post member?

I feel bad, I haven't met many famous people. I've only met Nick Maley, creator of Yoda. That makes me happy enough though, I'm a Star Wars geek.

In Miami, Florida I saw Shaq and I walked right past Jay-Z, and didn't notice him, but it doesn't matter, I don't like rap. That's more celebrities in 20 minutes in Miami, than two days of Hollywood.

Well if we're going to also talk famous people...my list is only a tad longer than fellow Caudata members:

I met Weird Al as a young teen in Oklahoma City. He was staying at the same Holiday Inn we were. Tells you something about his star power even when he was "big."

I also ran into Miroslav Satan at the HealthSouth Ice Center in El Segundo. Dude is TALL and he smokes more than I figured a prominent NHL player would! He was still with the Sabres at the time.

I've never met anyone from the site and I don't think I've met any famous herpers but I met Alice Cooper a couple years ago at the Festival of Fear in Toronto, Ontario. He was so nice. One of the best days of my life. I also met a guy, the same day, with horns. Yep.. he has bone growing out of his forehead. He was pretty cool.

I have not met anyone from this site,

I have met Ruud Kleinpaste who is known in NZ as the bug man.

I work as a tour manager for touring international bands during the 27 years in this industry I have met the following,

The Police, UB40, The Wailers, Lou Reed, Air Supply, Cold Chisel, Donna Summer, Tina Turner, Neil Young, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, John Paul Jones, Pope John Paul 2nd, Nelson Mandela, Pavarotti, KD Laing, Mad Ball,
Madness, Bob Dylan, Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, ELO, U2, Ronan Keeting, Simon and Garfunkel, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Ozzy Osborne, Kiss, Poison, Guns and Roses, Elton John, Queen, Iron Maiden, John Lydon, The Buzzcocks, Def Lepperd, Megadeath, Mettalica, Mississippi Willie Foster, Charlie Musselwhite, BB King, The Dalai Llama, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Stevie Ray and Jimmy Lee Vaughan, Rod Stewart, Adrian Byron Burns, Tuck and Patti, Akon, 50 cent, Ice T, Snoop Dogg, Toots and the Maytals, Taj Mahal, The Booyah Tribe, LL Cool J, NWA, Beatie boys, Xhibit, Afrika Bombada, Wu tang Clan, Bone Thugs and Harmony, Vanessa Mae, John Mayer, Bob Geldorf and the Boom town Rats, Spandau Ballet, Human League, Duran Duran, Fleetwood Mac, Lee Scrath Perry, Morgen Rot, Tommy the Clown, the Krump Kings, Gangsta Redd and Monsta Ganja, Suzy and the Banshees, The Cure, The Clash, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, The Bevis Frond, Toyah Wilcox, Crowded House, Dragon, Split Enz, Tommy Emanuel, Hunters and Collectors, Noiseworks, Midnight Oil, Third World, Maxi Preist, Roland Gift, Eddy Grant,Shanaia Twain, Damien Marley, and thats about it.

I have collected tour shirts, caps, posters and backstage passes for all of them. In my work role I am sort of camp mother, I make sure that all riders are met and everything runs smoothly, as well as that I wipe noses, stroke egos and give reassuring looks and comments, ensure appropiate substance supplies and dietry needs are met.

Most of them know me by name and we even get Christmas cards from a few.

I have never listed them all before but having done so now I can see why I may be deaf. After all this time and people I have formulated the foolowing belief, A full touring entourage, Flashing lights and a big Ego doesn't neccessarily make for a nice person.

I've not met anyone on here apart from Blackhawk, but he's my cousin so he doesn't count.
Famous herper wise I've met Chris Newman and a few reputable Scottish Herpers.

So if any of you Caudata.org goers find your self in Scotland feel free to stop by for a Haggis so I can add to my meager list.;)

I was waiting for that. I would be upset that we've really gotten off the spirit of this thread but for the fact that you have met David Bowie - that's your saving grace :p.

While we're waaaay off-topic, I've met Bill Clinton (when he was the Pres), Jessica Simpson (she lives around here) and Eddie Izzard (nice chap but he really needs to work on new material). For those from Britland, I met Jeremy Beadle whe I was a kid - he's dead now but he was an immensely nice fellow who made a big impression on me.

Chris Newman
If that's Chris Newman who wrote/writes the Vivarium magazine then I hope you checked the contents of your pockets afterwards.

I don't know much about him, I beleive he was the Chair of the Fedration of British Herpetologists for awhile. As for the contents of my pockets I had already emptyed them buying caffeine to keep me awake during his particularily long talk. I spoke with him breifly afterwards but he soon left the meeting- did you know him John?

A friend of mine in Scotland once sent him photos of fire salamanders to show him how they looked and CN published them in an article on gallaica in Vivarium, claiming the photos as his own. Not kosher.

That's not too good. It's sad that not even a leader of a large animal-based society is trust worthy with a few pictures.

I did Mention Ruud Kleinpaste First, He has a show on Animal Planet that counts doesn't it?

Not only met but also showed Mr Bowie some land which he later purchased. So do I get an extra green square?

What's he like?

What's he like?

He is quite short but has a huge presence, very humble and quite proper, he stands when women enter the room. A true English gentleman is the best description. He has a wicked sence of humour.

He has been known to nut off if things are not done properly but in my experience he gives 110% and expects that everyone else does. He is one of the most geniune people I have met and in this game at this level I hate to say there aren't too many.

Now I am way off topic

Short, really? It says he's 5' 10" on IMDB and standing next to Sting, who's not short, he looks about the same height... Still, interesting stuff.

The remaining teenager cells in me say : COOOOOOL!!!!!

I'm 6' 3" in barefeet but I reckon he would be 5' 7"- 5' 8" in bare feet, but you're right all his media says 5' 10" and if He wants 5' 10" then who am I to disagree.

Azhael, I used to think so too, now I'm old its loud, stressful and I spend my time waiting to get paid and go home. Thats why I retired, sort of. Got some great stories for the grand children, and you know what happens on the road ends up as chapters in the book.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
