My axolotl just laid eggs

They look great! You can already see the gills and eyes! That's ok about the quality of the picture. Thanks for keeping us posted!:D -Seth

Yes they're growing at an insane rate. It's only been 9 days but I think they'l be ready to go in just a few more. I'm hoping the ones I shipped out will make it in time. I might need to slow down their growing if I decide to do this with another batch in the future.

I've decided to move my egglings to some acrylic tubs I have tomorrow so the pictures won't be as gross looking after tomorrow. Anyway enjoy the photo! They're close to hatching and I'm super excited.

We're getting close to hatching. I opened my window and dropped the temp slightly to slow the growth a bit.

Thanks! I finally got the lighting and my iphone to work with me in making a good photo. As an update willowcat received my eggs in great condition unhatched as well. Hopefully tomorrow will be hatch date and Ill have regular pictures of them!

So in case anyone was interested I figured I'd post my method of hatching out eggs for small numbers. I've done this in the past with no issues and figured I'd share. This time around I'm using baby brine shrimp eggs given to me by a friend and I'm not sure if they're normal ones or decapsulated. I'll find out tomorrow but meanwhile ill post a list and pictures.

2 betta cups from petco/petsmart
Airline tubing
2 air stones if you have them
Bubbler with two outputs OR a t valve
Aquarium salt
Bbs eggs
Something to measure them out with

Supplies!

Sorta steps

As a side note, cut off the chunk inside the lid! Otherwise you might get an overflow.

Fill cups 3/4 full of cold water
IMG_0676_zpsf77a3a4b.jpg

One heaping teaspoon of salt
IMG_0677_zps407e4bbc.jpg

About half a teaspoon of BBS eggs. I have 50ish babies to feed so the amount will be less or more depending on your amount.

Prep both containers by putting salt in both, at this stage I only have one cup going and will start a second the following day to alternate between.

Final step for now.

Day one after hatching. Got lots of hungry babies and freshly hatched bbs. It's so cute watching them shoot around their tank.

Looking great! I am even a little bit jealous...

What types are the parents? Seems you have all dark ones... Are they wild type??
Love the updates, keep em coming :D

Mommy is gfp wild type and daddy is either wild type or melanoid. From what I can tell it's mostly wilds with some mels and maybe a handful of leucies that have freckles but from past experience I can't say for sure until they get their legs in and become more constant.

Day 2, all babies are eating and doing well. I made WAY too much bbs so everyone one of my tanks ended up getting some lol.

Looking good! And hey, at least they will have plenty of food whenever they want! Keep e'm coming! :D. -Seth

Yes they do. Probably far too much but Ive never had any issues with over feeding my babies. Ill definitely continue to post, it's a good way to keep track of their growth and I enjoy it!

I would be cautious about over feeding bbs to axolotls unless you are doing two water changes a day. I have noticed an increased mortality rate with with over feeding bbs and doing one water change per day.

I'll be sure to keep an extra eye on them. I check them constantly and when I over feed do more than one water change as needed. As a rule of thumb I try not to put too much in to start with but sometimes too much get put in.
