Congratulations Frankie!, I've got quite a few little axies at about the same size and it's quite exciting. Got a wide variety of micro food cultures going for them (spoilt already), and going to be feeding them very soon. Keep it up with the pics!
Another couple of pics, I managed to capture some of the larvae from the underside, so that's pretty special. I've never seen what they look like underneath, these guys are still only about 15mm long so these photos (love my magnifying lens filter!) make them much bigger than they actually are.
Unless I'm very much mistaken you can clearly see the stomach, digestive tract, cloaca and all the other slimy bits in there.
Enjoy...
View from the top - see all the BBS around this little guy?
HI there .. any possibilty of more photos ?
I love this thread your photos are awesome !!
I have approx 65 babes at almost 3 weeks. I am a little worried as approx 3-4 die overnight every night we did start off with approx 200
How big are yr babies now ? Mine are approx 5 cms and growing
Was planning to snap a few more tonight, stay tuned!
Seems to be a fairly high death-rate you've got going on there, I've lost perhaps 6 in total since they hatched and they were mostly the runty, wierd-looking ones that didn't have much of chance anyway.
What are you feeding them? How's their water?
Do I remember reading a thread of yours about dramas hatching with BBS?
yeah we did have terrible trouble hatching bbs however I found a place that sells it live and sells fresh eggs also. I lost 50 in one night when the local fish place that assured me they were experts sold me some fish food for fish fry , it seemed to clog up their gills as when I went through the next morning.
Water seems to be fine , prob our lack of experience as this is our first batch.
I do a 95% water change every day and use water from the pond as they seem to be doing better with that water than the aged treated tap water.
Looking forward to more piccies I will attempt some of our babies.
thanks
Lorraine
oh and yeah feeding them finely cut black worm which seems to be doing better then the bbs as I have no idea how much bbs to feed and cant see them eating it as it is so tiny , I have watched for the "jump" but not sure I can see it lol
anyways glad to hear yours are doing so well !
Rightio, another progress update on the little guys. The growth rate seems to have dropped off a bit, they're 5 weeks old now and still not much more than 30mm long for the largest ones.
As usual, the photo is absolutely MASSIVE, sorry about the hefty download, but at least you get to see all the little details!
I've also put up a couple of shots of the 'nursery' as a matter of interest to share with you guys. My wife and I were in the LFS and she saw those little cubic aquariums (5 in a row, all joined together) that are generally used to keep Siamese Fighters in.
We bought the two sets that you can see here for only around $AU30 each, they're a fantastic method to separate the babies out into batches so there'll be a lot higher survival rate due to less of the old "munchie-munchie" thing that they do.
