Question: Weak (malnourished?) axie, please advise!

Thank you so much for such a detailed answer Keiko, I think I'll follow your advice on everything:) re snails - I though I read somewhere that they live longer if kept at about 18C but I may be wrong!

Could be. Like I said, I've never kept them. :D What I've been told is that 20C would be best. In higher temperatures they don't live as long and in lower temperatures they become less active.

Hi everyone, happy to report that today all the kids have finally moved into their new home with the chiller! :) 4 weeks since we got Babe! His progress as of yesterday - looks chubby and happy now:))

I think they're still in shock and don't quite like the smell of each other yet, but at least there're showing some interest through the divider:)))) yay! Now just to wait until Babe is a bit bigger - and they'll be all enjoying their big tank together without the divider!

So Babe has now been reunited with the big guys - second week with no divider! The funniest thing is - they were scared of him, not him of them:))) the first few days he was annoying them every minute, tucking his nose under their bellies, climbing all over them, you name it:) we couldn't stop laughing - Axl & Mex were literally hiding from him whenever they could and he was super excited, exploring everything and swimming around the tank almost saying 'Play with me, will you? Cmon!':))) he also had no food-sharing manners at all:) so, yeah, a little monster in the family:)))
But now they guys seem to have accepted this little pink nuisance and allow him to cuddle and play with them:) No biting happened - well, except for Babe trying to eat Mex's gill instead of food one day, but he's too small to cause any damage to them:) and the big guys are more active now because of him which I think is good, exercise doesn't hurt!
So our little slimy family seems to be happy at last:) yay!ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412991100.055146.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1412991127.612072.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1412991150.911679.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1412991173.371658.jpg

And I have removed my three snails into a separate little tank a few weeks ago - they seem to be happy too:)ImageUploadedByTapatalk1412991536.014699.jpg

Thanks guys!!! We were very surprised that Babe wasn't scared of the guys at all!Honestly, I was there all day on day1 without the divider, in case he gets hurt or bitten - but nah, he's the star!:) a very brave and adventurous little Axie, I'm so proud of him and how amazingly well he's doing now:) superhero Babe:))

That's day1: Axl & Mex hiding in their caves while Babe is finishing off their food:))

That's really amazing. Glad these little guys found a good home with you. :)

And I know what you mean by being there to keep an eye on them all day. I just let my baby copper (ok fine, she's already about 20 cm, but she's still my baby...) hang out with the big axies first time today with out a divider. I've been pretty much next to the tank all day just to make sure nothing bad happens, but so far everything's gone great and the bigger ones are actually submissive towards the copper one. :D I think I'll still put the divider back for the night though, just to be safe. :D

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
