I've dug up a photo taken on my mobile phone of one of the axolotls they call Olive over here. Pretty sure its the same as Copper in Europe and not a wildtype. I like the way the gills seem particularly dark and contrast well with the body colour on these individuals. Unfortunately I gave this particular individual away as I was going away on holiday for an extended period but I'm sure I can pick up another one soon. Sorry the pic is not the best but the colours are pretty true to life. Some interesting discussions on the possible genetics of these colour forms.
Considering Axolotls are the only exotics species of Reptile or Amphibian to be permitted over in Australia I think we are well blessed with the colour forms available in the local pet shops and markets. Axolotls are also not allowed to be imported into Australia (although I'm not sure how long ago this came into effect) so these Copper individuals could well have arisen seperately from the European strain.
Regards Neil
