Just thought i would share this x

I said this in the other forum but from so many stories on here it sure sounds like plecos are extremely dangerous for your axies and they could easily turn at any moment.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but remove that plec and re-home it.

they are completely incompatible and both have vastly different requirements in terms of housing. plecs and the like have spines that can cause injury to your axies and they can also attach themselves to your axies and feed off their slime coats.

Would definetely remove the pleco and the sand may be slightly thick and become anaerobic

I have known many live in harmony. My plec and axies seem fine the first sign of any danger rest assured he will be gone but until tht day he is staying sorry guys.. And my sand i was told to put some other sand back as it was irritant for them and recommended this sand which has so far not had any affect :/ everyone is eatin pooping playing and sleeping fine so until cause of worry its staying as it is :) x

The sand thickness causes problem over time, it's not an irritant it produces toxic gasses which I've seen one bubble kill many fish.

I'm sorry but I don't agree with the fact that you're willing to risk their lives by leaving them together until something happens. I hope you don't wake up or come home one day to find a fatality or a serious injury, because you had quite a few people tell you the risks (axolotl's aren't actually compatible with any fish)

mmmk.

Ignorance isn't a key to successful aquarium keeping. No one is trying to bash you but as said before your willing to risk your axies life for the $5 pleco?

Even if they can physically cohabitat, axolotls are cold-water inhabitants and plecos are tropical fish. The temperature requirements of these two animals don't even overlap. You aren't providing the best care for either one of them.

But when the pleco latches on to the axolotl, sucks a hole in his side, leaves a big gaping wound, and you can see the the flesh start sliding off, don't bother posting a thread about what to do. After all, you've known many to live together in harmony.

Here's just one example of what plecos can do to an axolotl.

If that one's not bad enough, this one's pretty horrific. This one is NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS! You've been warned. Click here.

Wow, some of these comments just seem rude. I understand the risk and I would never do this myself, but to each their own. I try not to judge people. If Moobear has been properly informed and warned, then our job is done. We each make our own decisions and face our own consequences.

Honestly, if he chooses to leave them together let him be. Rudeness like that doesn't make a friendly community. Calling him stupid is just outright disrespectful. Yes, its not wise to leave them together based on their minimal success rate together, but if he wants to attempt it so be it.

Yes, thats true. Watch out for the next thread entitled "My pleco killed my axolotl". People on this site get tired of giving out advice which just gets ignored. I could name half a dozen very experienced people who refuse to post as it gets tiresome handing out the same advice to people who dont bother to do enough research before acquiring a pet. Unfortunately it is the pet who pays the price for ignorance/willfull stupidity.

Rude? I don't think so.

Putting animals like this together is like letting your children ride in the car with no seatbelt. It's not 'silly', it's downright dangerous. It's stupid; it's ignorant; and you damn well should be called out on it!

Ian's exactly right. Experienced keepers come to this forum to give out information (with absolutely no incentive for themselves, mind you) to people who are new at keeping caudates, only to be poo-pooed by those who think they can do whatever they want because the animals have been living together just fine for 2 weeks.

This isn't a daycare. It's a forum for the spreading of information. Yes, people should keep it civil, but coddling people isn't going to get us anywhere when they're obviously willfully ignorant.

I have to completely agree. If you ignore the advice given to you then you should look into a different type of pet.

Its like not keeping a secure lid on the tank. I didn't have one for my red backs and they all escaped and died. I learned my lesson the hard way. Someone yelling at me for being a complete idiot would have just been further reason to not use a lid.
I don't follow your logic. So if someone calls you stupid for doing something stupid you in turn keeping doing stupid things? That seems.... well.... STUPID

The world aint made of chocolate and rainbows. Sometimes being rude is the only way to get a point across.

I think people are just getting upset because people keep doing this stuff time after time, even though there are countless horror stories of axolotls dying from pleco attacks all over the web.
