Right todays the day

Thats better 2 nice dark hides for them! Probably homebase a garden center or some similar shop for the river pebbles, dont go too mad with them as youve probably read food and waste gets trapped between them! and probably your leeds pet shop or what ever its called for the sand, Put a layer of sand in bout 15mm deep dont go too mad with that either as deeper sand can trap poisonous gas pockets, also if you go for a white sand it is really easy to see axie poo for cleaning!

My suggestions to make your tank look wicked:
white sand, a few large smooth shiney black pebbles dotted about, your black pvc pipes along with the dark color of your axies on the white sand will really set the tank off and of course the addition of the plants! (dont overcrowd it tho as your already tight for space!)

Oooh and if you havnt already got one, get yourself a turkey baster from robert dyas! its a lethal weapon in the war against axolotl poo, it makes life sooo easy!

do you know that sounds AWESOME
ooohx2 my dad has one of them for his baby newts , ill nick his

Remember to check inside the pipes for poop quiet a bit my guys always poo in there pipes I am sure it is to annoy me!

lmaooo :D

can i just ask , how mig do these pebbles need to be , will palmsize be big enough?

I would say make pebbles large enough that you know they could not possibly swallow and than a little larger.

Click on that link and take a look at the picture.

What do you think about using driftwood instead of rocks? it will provide an extra hiding place and physical barrier and make your tank stand out and look like a real river, rocks really are hard to clean around. Axolotl love floating about in strange positions as you will find out when you get plants so a bit of driftwood will also give them another opportunity to make you laugh!

i wanted to get white sand with black pipe and black axolotls and black pebbles ,with plants
and driftwood is really dear and would take up too much roop realy , i have a small chunk in tho
and that poor axolotl , i bet that is constipated , it will be like giving birth and what do you mean by a physical barrier

Whatever you do, don't get sand for homebase or garden/builders sand. Get some kids play sand, its £2.99 from argos for 15kg's, it also looks a lot nicer.

Oh and I don't like turkey basters that much for picking up poop, I use a gravel cleaner, works much better.

do you know where i can get some white sand from that would work , if not i will go for argos one

Hey Harry, I have really white sand I got it from the internet, with postage cost it was about £25 it is really nice it is called Caribsea super naturals moon sand. or you could get play sand from argos.

By physical barrier I mean sometimes Axolotls want to get away from it all and be alone, with plants and decorations between them there is less chance they will get aggressive towards each other.

I have a nice piece of driftwood I got from pet shop it only cost me £4, it is like a bridge so I buried each end in the sand a lot less chance of trapping poop

im going to get some play sand from argos & i have just bought the plants so they should be here on Tuesday or tomorrow , so my tank is going to come along nicely from this week , and i am wondering , what happens to the axys if they swallow the sand

The spit most of the sand out and any swallowed is not to worry about...do you not feed by hand it is really fun

yea i feed them by hand most of the time , i fed them a cockroach today and they woofed it down , only trouble is they bite my thumbs when i put my hands in ,or they miss the worm and get me :D

Harry mate just one thing about the plants! make sure you wash them thoroughly and pick off any snails that might be hiding in them as it is very easy to get a snail infestation and apart from picking them all out one by one its nigh on impossible to get rid of them, they get everywhere and can eat at your axies skin while they sleep!

As for sand ive got pure white unipac petcare sand, got it from my local aquatics shop £5 for a medium sized bag which will be more than plenty for your tank ive only used less than half a bag in my tank and its all cleaned and ready to go! Im sure it will be available at that leeds petshop you mentioned as I checked their website it looks hoooge!

And as for stones palm size will do fine you dont really want to go any smaller than 5cm round, just to be safe! Axies are like little kids they just have to put things in their mouths that they shouldnt!

Yeah my axie loves playing with my hands too he wont leave me alone when im trying to clean the place!

ha ha , and ok i will try to get all the snails out when they come , and i am off to argos tomorrow for the sand

oh and my axolotls keep doing large poo like packages and they pop and make my water murky , any suggestions for this

You just have to try clean out the poop before it breaks up, but if it is just swirling in the water maybe the current is too high

it isnt swirling , it is sunk at the bottom , but they had popped it wile i was out and now all my water is murky

Well I am a little confused why the water is murky must have been a massive poo! Do you now how long ago they went was it while you were at school? or was it in the last half hour or so? what I am asking is do you think the poo has had enough time to settle or has the water been murky for a couple hours?

i don't know as i had to go to witby to have my dogue de Bordeaux mated so i have just come in and my water was murky so it could have been there a coule of hours and i dont know if it has had time to settle

Has the water gone cloudy? just bacteria forming, do some partial water changes and leave the filter on.

Eats their skin? Sounds like a plot to a snail zombie film.
