Omg so today i went and picked up 30 eggs of another user from here, got home and checked my axies, to find my wild type girl laying her own eggs!! OMG im so excited!!!! she's layed about 30 - 40 so far and is still laying more! while she is laying, should i take the male out? or will it disturb her? my husband was feeding her when i got home from picking up eggs from ballarat from another forum user, when i walked in to show my husband, i noticed the eggs! then my husband said oh that's why she wasn't eating.. even tho she was being disturbed by my husband feeding her and the male in the tank, she keep going on to lay more eggs.. so will removing the male really disturb her that much?? im really not sure what to do? im so excited right now!!

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

mine laid eggs while I was out and it all went smoothly. If there are enough hiding places, there shouldn't be a problem leaving the male in with her. Congratulations!

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

Thanks!! we caught him eating the eggs so we moved him right away! now she's just in there all alone with no interruptions at all {put the kids to bed and closed all doors} to make sure she has the peace and quiet she needs. she's had alot more already, about 100-150... im guessing she's going to be laying all night! i just cant believe i have 2 lots of different egg's now lol! i have some 10 day old eggs, but they have been keep at lower temps and are not very developed yet, about half way. and now i have brand new eggs! yay im so happy! :bowl:

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

Yay for you. Make sure you give her an extra worm for dinner when she is finished laying her lovely eggs. Get the camera ready:D

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

So jealous XD <3

How the heck do you get these guys to make babies!? Mine have the toe tips, food, everything and nothing...not even spermatophores and I know I have girls and boys. They are over a year old...do they have to be older? ::re-reads everything::

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

Aww I wish Frangipane was in the mood again. :)
(But Xotl isn't feeling well so I won't expect eggs... I'll have to get another male I guess :D)

I tried different things and I saw all the signs that they were "baby-making-ready" but still nothing. When I did a water change and when I changed things in the tank it might have encouraged my axies to do funny things :D
Frangipane had a slightly rounder belly than normal and she was dancing for a while. Suddenly I saw spermatophores and a day later I had eggs all over. I even saw her "glueing" (or gluing whatever the word might be) them to the plants. Pretty cute!

So I guess they lay eggs when you least expect it.

Hmmm...maybe I'll try and spiff up their house some...re-arrange things...create a hot axolotl love pad? HAHA :p

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

hahaha that's a cute pic, and i have been trying for 2 weeks xD it was the fact that i jinxed it! i found someone with eggs close to me, went to pick some up, came home to find her laying her own!! i couldn't believe it!

anyway's i think it was that i have 2 tanks set up, one especially for breeding, in my bathroom, away from my kids and loud noises etc, i had the most dancey male in with the biggest more mature looking female, and i got egg's! xD at first for a week i had my other female in with him, but she didn't seem interested, then i switched them and BAM i got eggs!

and not only the 175 she has layed so far, but the 30 - 40 i got off another forum user {NooNoo Kz} so now i have eggs due to hatch in about 5 - 7 days, and some due in 2 weeks lol! i'm hoping i end up with a high survival rate!
alot of my friends and family want hand raised baby's and my mums friend owns a really great speciality reptile pet store and it has a great aquarium wall right down the side of the entire store {its huge} and they have 4x 4ft tanks just for axies, and the owner has agreed to take what ever when needed xD plus i have alot of tanks! so even if i end up with 100 juvi axies, ill have room for them! lmao
:D::wacko::bowl::D:wacko::bowl::D

@suzi you are going to have a lot of little mouths to feed soon. Good luck. Remember take lots of photos cause they grow so darn quick

@morrison....their 1st meal as a married couple could be earthworms served on a bed of defrosted bloodworm with a side of cherry shrimp(when they catch them:p)......cue....mood music

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
looks like you wish came true ;)

I take out the male... many a time I've caught one 'munching' an egg or two, my female doesn't seem to mind she just keeps going.

Again Congratulations!!!

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

That picture is adorable! My axies are in the pet/computer room where its usually pretty quiet unless we have friends over, then the room become the zoo/aquarium/please touch museum.

The rats are in the same room. They like to sleep during the day so its quiet and dark for them :) Snakes are also in that room :p hmm i should charge admission haha

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

yea i took him out about 5 mins after posting! he was eating them!! then i even caught her snapping at them, while laying more lol she's having a nice big worm right now, gonna go back in soon and see if she wants another xD im going to keep her in the breeding tank for maybe 2 weeks now to let her fully recover and keep her away from the other axies and the noise of our lounge room! im a little worried about the eggs tho, a few are deformed or squished looking, the ones i found on the bottom of the tank in the sand, i think she might of stood on a few of them, or snapped at a few and maybe spat them back out.... im not sure if this is her first lot of eggs but i think its not, she's about 2 years old and i think she's had egg's before. im pretty sure im just nervous about my very first lot of egg's! xD iv raised baby's, just never eggs lol! so here i go, wish me luck on this lot, and my other lot! lol

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

take a deep breath......You will do fine with them relax, the hard part is still to come...feeding time

The eggs you are worried about might fix themselves up and grow into beautiful axies and if they dont mother nature will step in.

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

Yer, squished eggies are common, I only had 1 or 2 this batch and neither fully developed :(.

Leaving her in the tub for awhile probably is best, although unless you want babies every few weeks you might need to keep them separated, I had to, feisty little things. I think I might get my girly a friend though to keep her company

Don't worry about the eggs, considering how obsessed you were at getting some I highly doubt that you would possibly allow any harm to come to them :D.

Oh and with food make sure you always have an alternative too, things don't always work out and sometimes you need backup!

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

with the food i know!! lol i got 2 things on BBS going at the moment now anyway for the 3 goldens i have, also i just found a place that sell's live daphnia too :D

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

OMG where (in Melb???) !!! I've been looking for daphina for AGES and I thought nowhere sells it. Could you tell pleeeeaase

Re: OMG Shes Laying Egg's! YAY!!!!!

when the eggs we gave you were layed, we found them at night, and she was still laying. The male seemed fine with these but because he was mating witht he other female in the tank at the time the other one was laying, he was knocking eggs off, so we moved all three out the next afternoon then decided they were in a too small tank so we swapped the eggs and even gave eggs to friends and they are all developing well. the ones you got were in a colder room where as I have some from same mum at my house who are almost ready to hatch, those ones should be hatching on saturday and yours probably sunday. Boy was it fun and back-aching to remove almost 500 eggs from rocks and toy bridges.. they literally line the tank!! We bought plants for them after that so that when they lay eggs next we can just move the plants. Congrats Suzi though am glad you get the pleasure of your own babies!! haha as you realise you will end up giving them away almost. I dug a big hole in the backyard for a pond for my axies, we will have a proper pond and a big fish net! Night night everybody! enjoy your eggs!
