Niles Biological Axolotls.

True that, so far though there seems to be a unanimous decision to stay away from the axolotls by every fish, i guess the constant snapping at them and attempting to eat them has made them grow fear. So far i seem safe, but i do understand fish could go for them, but i guess i got lucky this time around with the gill nipping.

I also dont feed my guppys blood worms so they dont reconize the gills as a food source. They are trained to eat flakes and pellets, they do like the axolotls pellets.

Yes but the instinct of an animal is normally bigger than his will.

That was quite a lucky shot - the photo of the axie eating the fish. Would you mind if I post that photo in Caudata Culture, Forrest?

Update on axolotl, defintly WAY bigger.

Oh yeah the light is not as bright as it seems in the top picture, just the way the camera views it.

Your axolotl's gills are curled forward it seems, this can mean it is stressed.

the white one is lil over 7 inches and the brown one is probably barely 6 inches.

As for curled gills then they must be stressed 24/7. But judgeing how fast they are growing and eating im not worried about any stress.

So from 2/08/2007 to 3/27/2007 the white one went from 3 to 7 inches and the brown went from 2.5 inches to about 6 inches.

If this keeps up i suspect im gonna have some 12 incher axolotls.

they both eat 2 mini night crawlers a day.

Is there a fast current in the tank, what type of filter do you have?

its a penguin biowheel maybe 200b? made for a 50 galon tank and mines only 30 gallons. I put plants infront of it so it should be slown down, also stuff doestn move around in the bottom so i dont think the current reaches down there.

Maybe ill go buy one for a 30 gallon tank that would slow things down.

Thats great that they are doing so well. Are just feeding them the worms?

penguin 200b = 200gph
penguin 150b = 150gph
penguin 100b = 100gph

I ordered a penguin 100b, the flow of water will be cut in half, says for 20 gallon tank. I dout i even need a filter due to all my plants but will see how this works out.

Good, post some more pictures of your tank with the new filter once you get it so I can check out the gills if you can.

will do, may take a while shipping from where i ordered is on the slow side.

wow.....love the tank!
And love the axies!
It looks like a little jungle lake!:D

Hehe I never complemented on your GREAT setup, I just criticized you on the gills.

Sorry.

thanks for the compliments. and ryan absolutely nothing wrong with criticizism.

Any of you guys able to tell what sex they are? if i take a wild guess, i say the white is male due to a sharper head and MAYBE the wild is female due to a more fatter head. The wild is allways fatter but from what i can see, it eats quite a bit and non stop so i dont think its eggs.
