My Chinensis Tank New LooK

haha thanks guys!

That jar idea is genius, as far as limiting the amount of cleaning necessary. How much luck do you have getting them to go to there individual jars?

i put those jars quite far from each other and immediately put a cube of frozn bloodworms each(make sure they are at the other end of tank). once it has started to melt, both newt will start sniffing around, looking for it. sometimes im lucky, they go to different jars.

sometimes they go to the same one, i have to gently "direct" one of them to the other jar using my hands and watch them eat till finish and clear everything up once done.

That is a great setup. Where did you find the piece of bark?? its perfect.

Looking good.
You can still raise the level of water a good 5cm, specially now you have two.
About that...did you quarantine the new newt? That´s kind of important actually, because these animals are WC, and the risk of transmiting diseases is considerable.

i put the new one in another smaller bare tank for a few days and seems healthy and eats well.

How quickly do your newts respond when you place the jars with the bloodworms in the tank? Also, do the shrimp ever bum-rush the jars and eat the bloodworms?

Jar idea seems to be a great idea and I can't wait to try it myself!

i can say its almost immediately my newts start reacting the moment i put in a cube of bloodworms in each jar. and the shrimps only come when the newts are done and left some uneaten. have fun trying! haha

cheers.

EsFuAeN - the tank looks great, very artistic and your newts are really good looking. The first one shown in your pictures, particularly, looks really majestic and proud. Good luck with them :D

Great pics, what camera did you use?

haha thanks guys! the newts are still doing great. im using canon 1000D/rebel xs for all the shots.

cheerS! :D

The tank still looks good. From my experience however those tillandsias are not going to do well over the long term without a lot of light, which the newt may not appreciate. Good luck with them.

dang thats sad!! those plants are pretty!! thanks!

what kind of fish are those? regular fancy guppies or what? nice tank i like it a lot!

hi!

those are endlers.

cheers.

I think the jars are brilliant as well. Good one!

I think initially your newt stayed out of the water because of turbulence, not because of the water level nor the activated charcoal. As the water level rose, the turbulence and foam was reduced.

My experience with newts (rearing them on/off since 1992) is that they hate aquatic turbulence and noise. A good measure for me is if I can hear a lot of trickling or bubbling of water, the newt will HATE being in the water.

That's why i avoid using air stones and air pumps. Go for 1.2-1.8watt water filters with a snout that can draw air into the flow.

Hey bro I haven't got my camera back from a friend yet, in the meantime I just like to let you know that I found that dwarf frogs sold at the fish shops really catch his attention.

Unfortunately for me, after he'd eaten them all, he's completely ignoring the frozen bloodworms! not sure what to do now. hopefully hunger would make him turn around.

I'll post the pics up this weekend :)

That is such a cool setup. Hat goes off to you my friend.

Looking great but i still think the newts would benefit greatly of A LOT more water....
I´m sorry....i know i´m annoying, but i can resist it xDD

Yea I would agree with this, from the size of the newt, another 2-3 inches would do him great, however it would make the tank mostly aquatic, I guess it's entirely your choice.
