Hopefully we're allowed to post youtube videos? I didn't see any ruling that we can't... sorry if there is!

This is a neat way of doing it in a dish instead of a jar without making a mess (not my video, but great idea!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cR3yLPXK9PI

I tried the method on this video.. The bloodworm still ended up all over lol. Maybe I should try the jar method :dizzy:

I use such a dish for pellets, and it's fine. Not sure about bloodworm though, I don't feed them much of those.

Aside from the pellets, I mostly hand feed them earthworms.

we hand feed earth worms and we use a small dish for pellets and they get blood worms when we do a tank clean out as we put them in the spare tank which is just bare and if there are any left by the time the big tanks done they just go down the loo

Woopers feeding jar :)

Mulder and Scully love their feeding jar for bloodworms, although I hand feed them earthworms. It's amusing when they are both squeezed in the jar together waiting for bloodworm to magically appear.

Love this idea. Does anybody know if it will work with african dwarf frogs also?

This page was suggested to me after a bloodworm disaster which resulted in a 100% water change mere days after moving my axxie. I'm so glad I found it!

I found a massive coffee jar, cleaned it, and placed fresh bloodworm in. I popped the jar in and Toothless pretty much copied every axxie on here that didn't enter the jar - squished herself between it and the her sleeping jug, laid next to it, tried to sleep on top of it - but she could not be persuaded to go in. After a while she had a 'hmph!' moment and decided to go into her sleeping jug with her tail sticking out. She wouldn't go near it.

I hoped it was partially down to the fact it was new and also because the jar was taking up about a quarter of the tank on its own. This time I laid it sideways right next to her sleeping jug so she could still get in, and left it. No fussing, no moving it closer to her (as I was daft and thought this would help the first time). After two hours of repeating the same exercise from last night (during which time I could see her lying next to the bloodworm outside the jar, as if to say, 'there is a forcefield around my dinner, Mum!'). I had almost given up hope when I saw her sidle closer to the lip of the jar. I watched, hoping she'd use it, and five minutes of tentative nosing later, she was at the back of the jar, munching happily. I could have cheered! No messy bloodworm to clear up, less cloudy water and a minimal water change in the morning!

I've learnt it's a good idea to leave it in the tank for a bit before you add food so the axxie doesn't freak out, and also to make sure you don't block the entrance to their hides, as if they're a bit confused by the new addition they might need it. I also found that you've got to put it in there and leave it, rather than moving it like I did, and that you might need to desensitise your lotl over a few days to train them into seeing the feeding jar as a 'good thing,' like positive enforcement in dogs. I also found I couldn't leave the jar upright as the worms floated right out, but if it was laid down, the water pressure forced the worms to the back of the jar.

I hope this helps anyone who struggled with it the first time, like I did :)

I tried a jar when it was just stitch but after adding the other two i needed a wider jar, so now i use this glass dish :)

I found it's much harder to use the jar method with two axolotls. Even when i would put two jars in the tank, they both ended up in the same one -.-

he he sounds about right! Mine take turns in the dish and if ones being a little greedy I send them on their way :)/COLOR]

Axxies become 'Staxxies' when there is only one jar lol!

I had a quart jar in my big tank but with 4 trying to get into it I decided to put a gallon jar in it now its funny to see all 4 in the jar eating.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
