Game of Thrones

okay, officially addicted now. I got the first book on audio and just finished. maaaan....now I'm gonna order all the others.

Thanks Az, for one more addiction; just what I need.

While on the topic, here's some dude in the UK playing the game of thrones theme on the piano.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6a9odk6b_c It's just amazing how he hits the dark and epic feel of it. I'd give my right hand to be able to play piano like that - wait, no, that would defeat the purpose - but you get the idea.

playing the main theme on piano.

The series of books is called A Song Of Ice And Fire, and the first book is Game Of Thrones. The second one i believe it´s called A Clash Of Kings, the third A Storm Of Swords, and the fourth A Feast for Crows. I think there´s another one but i can´t remember the name right now.

Don't get caught out, the 3rd book A Storm of Swords is published in two parts A Storm of Swords: Steel and Snow and A Storm of Swords: Bllod and Gold. The new one A Dance With Dragons has just been released. The new one is technically the other half of A Feast for Crows plus a bit, it runs cocurrently with it and then adds a bit more.

Personally I thought the series was excellent, it really captured the look and feel of the books. Roll on Season 2!

I'm on the verge of finishing the first book (so no spoilers please :D - in fact I'm not going to read this thread too carefully just in case there are some) but have never seen the TV series. I don't get HBO on my cheapo basic TV package. Anyone know if there are plans to broadcast it on the standard set of UK channels in the future, or at least something I can get on Virgin Media?

gosh, this is all so complicated it gives me a headache. Why can't he just number them # 1-5 and be done with it?

I'm eagerly awaiting the sixth book, a Worm for Newts, and the seventh, a Motrin for Mama.

No problem, rethgar, i just finished (literally) the first part of the third book. I love that they had to divide the third book into two because it was so bloody massive. The level of addicition by now is very scary....when i finish them all i´m afraid of what i´ll do..i can see flashes of me keeping the author hostage and forcing him to write for me.

No spoilers! I will personally destroy anyone who messes with my fun. And yes, i´m looking at YOU, as yet unidentified user, don´t do it!

Mark, it seems that Sky has the exclusive of the series. I suposse you could buy the dvd which should be already available or soon enough.

I´m ashamed to say just how much i laughed when i read "A Worm for Newts". If i end up taking the author prisoner i´ll be sure to push that title for the sixth book. Damn you, Molch, i´m still laughing...it´s too absurdly funny xD

And now, onto the second part of the third book!!!

Hey, i have also watched Season 1 of Game of Thrones and i find it outstanding! As everybody, i love Tyrion (plus i think Peter Dinklage is an AWESOME actor playing this role!), Syrio Forel was also an interesting character.
Can't wait for Season 2!

Mark: If Sky has the exclusive rights you may never get it on Virgin, it'll eventually make it to Sky 3 along with Police, Camera, Idiot which you can get on free packages. I don't know if Sky and Virgin sorted their tiff out so it may well be a dvd job.

Azhael: I love the size of these too, apart from the fact I dropped the new one on my foot the other day. Damn that hurt!

moi, living in the land of no TV reception, will just have to wait for the DVD...

YEAH!!! Just found this thread and am glad to see more people who like A Song of Ice and Fire and the TV series! I Loved the show even though there were some differences (like the Moon Door on the floor) The actors were PERFECT! And even having read the books, it still felt great to see Joffery taken out *cheers* Looking forward to season 2!

I have read/own all the books, and enjoy the HBO series.

I just hope I do not have to wait three years for the next book...

For those, like me, who refuse to knowingly give money to the Murdoch empire and don't have Sky Atlantic, the 1st series is available to stream online at Tv-Links : Free Movies links, Watch Tv Shows links online, Anime, Documentaries. I've been using the megavideo.com option.

It's always difficult when you've read the book because the TV show has so much to live up to and some of the characters are very different to how I'd imagined them. When you go back to reading the book you don't know whether to continue with the characters from the show or the ones from your imagination. Still, it's not bad, but lacks some of the grandeur and scale of the books.

Hey,
Got all the audio books, the books and seen the tv series. Bit of a shame to know the plot before watching the tv series but hey it was enjoyable anyway. Hope they go all the way with the tv series. Tv series was better than I expected.

No adaptation ever lives up to the expectations of the fan. My way to cope is to lower the expectations quite a bit and always remember that it´s a tv-series and therefore it´s never going to be perfect. With that in mind, i´m able to enjoy many tv-series that next to A Game of Thrones are absolute rubbish xD

I do hate it when the character in your mind doesn´t fit the actor but i have to ignore it or go mad.

All in all, and considering the mountains of utter c**p that fill the media, i think it´s the best thing i´ve seen on tv for quite a while. Can´t wait for the second series, and can´t wait for more boooooooks! Aaaarghh!

Oh, by the way, HBO is preparing a tv-series based on Neil Gaiman´s "American Gods" which has the potential to be really excellent. Waiting for that to air is going to give me a tumor.

I thought the series was quite good, though not perfect. They got some of the characters woefully wrong, esp. Drogo. He looked way too baby-faced and well=groomed, like a jock fresh out of the weight room of the local gym. Oh, and for a horse-lord he sure had no idea how to sit a horse lol.

The settings were pretty, but not always right on. Winterfell should have been surrounded by a northern boreal-forest type landscape, instead they plopped it down in the middle of what looks like an overgrazed Irish pasture.

oh well I know you can't ever have it 100%. All in all, it was quite good I thought.

Any idea when? That is one of my favourite books ever! I'll put aside the worry over it living up for now... If anyone will do a decent job it'll be HBO I guess.

Probably not until 2013. I too think that HBO could do a good job with it, i have high hopes. The book is so good and so weird that i know the adaptation will have no chance of being perfect, but i can live with that.

I'd never heard of it, but someone recommended it as being like Camelot, but better. I loved it! I'm about half way through the first book and have the second and third ones waiting :D

At last! I have big hopes for this new season.

I´m satisfied with the beginning of the new series. The choice of actors for the new characters is generally quite good, and once again i seem to recognize everyone xD

Ah, how i missed the intro......:)

Thankfully, The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones do not clash on TV, so I can watch each uninterrupted.

Please not that with Game of Thrones, the Books are excellent, however it will ruin the series for you on TV.

Sad when there is only two shows worth watching anymore.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
