oh, yours are sooo cute :D, but in my mind they look much different to mine - a little bit like GFP. ;) They are so beautiful and I vote for them as "axie of the year".:D

Tina

now the little copper larvae are one week old and I must tell you, that I´ve been a little bit worried about their development. They are eating fine, but not as much as they should do and their bellies are not as rounded as they have to be. But they didn´t poop until this morning and they are still 13/14mm in size. So, they didn´t grow.

But today I figured out what was wrong - I hope. :D

The water temp has always been only at 14 C and I think, that´s a little bit too cold.
I´ve put the box into a warmer room now (19 C) hoping for a better development.

Hope they are ok
Mine are struggling a little.
Quite a few have now died.
They seem to stop eating and die! not sure whats happening, I am raising them the exact same as all my babies. I'm wondering if its weak genetics or Freds age.

Mel

oh, I am ashamed, I wanted to make an update this early morning, ....but I´ve forgotten.

I think they are much better eating now since I warmed up the water. I took some pics before I fed them this morning and their bellies look nicely rounded. :D
I hope, they will grow now, too.

Hi Mel,

I´m very sad about your loss. :( Do you have a guess what happened? How old/big are yours now? I guess 10cm?

Good luck with your babies!
Greetz, Tina

Hi Mel,

Greetz, Tina

I only have one lft from the first batch he's about 8 weeks old and is about 5cms.
The second lot are approx 3 weeks old and are only 2cms.

There are 5 or 6 left. I really have no idea. They eat, but then they give up and die.
I have done exactly the same with them as all my babies and the success rate is usually at least 90% or so. I'm hoping its just Freds age and not some genetic incompatability with her and Finley.

Your babies are looking brilliant. Well done!!

Mel

Glad to hear it Tina.
Sorry to hear it Mel. :(

I admire you two for having the guts to even try this. I look at those tiny little things and it scares the stuff out of me even thinking about it.

I'm learning a lot without risking the heartbreak of a problem. Well... it IS heartbreaking... but heartbreak by proxy is easier to handle. :(

now I´m sure - it was too cold for them. Now they are eating, growing and developing very well. :D

Yesterday it was their birthday (they´re now 2 weeks old) and for birthday present they got some daphnia ..... and they loved it. It was a great pleasure to see them jumping and eating.

Here are the today´s pics and as you can see, they are just under 2 cm in size. Next week I´ll await to see the growing of their front legs. ;)

Looking fantastic, callina! They are so cute! Can't wait to see how these guys turn out - keep the photos coming! ;)

They're adorable, and I definitely envy your camera. I thought about starting a thread like this when my larvae hatched, but I just couldn't get good enough pics while they were that small. :(

the weekly news

Today the little copper larvae are 3 weeks old and 2.5 cm in size. Since I warmed up the water they´re developing and growing fine. :D

If you take a close look on the pics, you should see little, whitish stumps in front of their bellies ..........their front legs. :proud:

They are eating daphnia and still some newly hatched brine shripms.

They are so adorable.......I love them. :D
