Elmo

Thanks Rheann - I know I shouldn't blame myself, but its so hard not to when I'm the one who has been caring for him and has so obviously failed.

I'm just torn up as to why it's happened, I've cared for Elmo the same as Elsa and she is thriving now.

I don't think I'll get another axie - I have Elsa anyway.

Will Elsa get lonely? Or is she okay on her own?

I'll get another if she will be lonely.

I don't think that she will get lonely as Axies don't mind being alone, but they are more active when there is more than one in the tank. Tank mates encourage active hunting for food and inter-acting with one another. I think keeping more than one in a tank also encourages "sharing" of tank space for future residence and encourages less aggressive behavior, but I could be wrong on this. Some axies develop Genetic diseases, just like humans. You did your best, that is all matters

Hayley - I am sorry to hear about Elmo.

There is nothing else you could have done for him, and what happened was not your fault and you could not of stopped it.

Some animals are simply weak and they do not survive no matter how good the care is they receive.

Poor Elmo, and you too Hayley-Jane. I remember how upset I was when my first axolotl, Axis, died. He too deteriorated over a long period of time and it was very frustrating not being able to help. It doesn't sound to me as if you did anything wrong so don't blame yourself.

Laura

Thanks everyone for your kind comments.

I buried him in the garden today

Really deflates you when a pet dies doesn't it?

Thought I'd post all the pictures I have of him and leave it alone as it is upsetting.

Thanks again, everyone here is so understanding. x x
