Egg Laying in Progress.

Thanks Trace!

My mom snapped some photos with a phone for me. Sent to me in Mexico and I'm posting them...or trying for the second time from here:

Based on these shots, looks like Twins are one Leucistic and one wildtype. Same for the Fraternal eggs that won't separate. I kept mine at a cooler temp than trace as I won't be back until Sunday, but looks like they are just about ready to go. Tomorrow/Saturday, right in time for me to return.

Love the pictures :) Mine laid about two weeks ago, but with finals now, traveling coming up, and no one else to take care of them (plus college budget..), I sold almost all of mine.

What are you doing for food?

BBS de-capped. They haven't hatched yet! I might just make it back home to see it happen. I only kept about 30 viable eggs.

Came back from Mexico. A couple of hours before, one hatched! Talk about timing. BBS cooking!

Looks like my mom tried to take some photos during my vacation.

First Hatch! Between Noon and 2PM Today, 17-18 days after laid:

Anyone know if that's a leucistic coloring?

Again with the colors, anyone have experience? Or is it still too soon? I think the wildtypes are easy to tell, but are the yellow/white/seethroughs Leucistics?

My twins, and their colors:

This poor fella is misshapped, but he's alive...any advice? Cull? How at this point?

Looks to me like the twins are a gold albino and a wild! Congrats!

How common are Gold Albinos? I don't know if the parents are Albino carriers, and none of the eggs were "clear", all dark brown/black with lighter spotting on some.

Mom is Leucistic GFP and Dad is a Wildtype GFP, so is it possible to produce a Golden Albino from that? I really don't know how the morphs were derived, and would appreciate some educated posts/links to beef up on that.

I don't know that... lol I'm no expert in genetics, but I know you can get albinos from dark eggs. Maybe someone can answer that better?

Hopefully! I'm here to learn, and signed up when I got the axies, so having this forum as a resource during the egg laying was a lot of help. I'm so glad I read about the temps, because it looks like my ambient temp for them was 66-68 degrees, and they took their sweet 18 days to hatch, giving me enough time to come back from a 9 day vacation.

I just found one in the parents tank when feeding the parents. He looks HUGE compared to the rest of the ones hatching, I'm assuming he hatched days ago in their 20 gallon tank, and found microscopic stuff to eat? Maybe those white worms that sometimes appear when there's an excess of left over food? If I was to say size wise, he must be 30-50% longer than those hatching now.

I took some pictures of them and they are now becoming elongated. A very interesting process, however I will probably try and sell the golden eggs soon. Here's a picture of the goldens in their capsules as they have become elongated and are growing well. Although I know I need to separate the eggs off of the plastic very soon and very carefully.

My daughter died in a car accident on Nov 3.so.i went and picked up the 70+ leucistics that she had gotten as eggs a couple of weeks before and they had just hatched. So I am raising them on brine shrimp. ... indoctrination by fire of course. ...and some are now large enough to start feeding them blood worms.

In the meantime her golden which I thought was constipated and followed the refrigerator directions for constipation. ... then finally put her back in the tank and within 48 hours she was laying eggs. Oh my.

..

I think my posts came in out of sequence. Oh well. I am just learning about axies.... Indoctrination by fire since my daughter and grandson passed away... but I could not let her new babies that just hatched die. So now I guess I will try and sell the golden eggs along with the leucistic babies. I have only lost a few of the babies so I must be doing something right.

Ok, using tank water from Parents, so far so good. Panic is over, I think.

Any ideas on how to cull a deformed axie? He can't swim, only wiggles when prodded. :/

Feeding went well, seeing lots of yellow bellies...made too much BBS, and gave them too much, but water will be cleaned, just gotta dose it right next time. My issue is that I'm running FOUR containers...

One with twins,
One with fraternal twins (two eggs stuck together), but these may end up in the community tub once the second frat hatches.
One with Tank, the beast baby who survived in the parents tank for days on his own.
One with all the others, so far adding up to 10 hatched, and 12 eggs still to hatch destined for the tub.

All in all that's 27 + deformed one.

Will post belly pictures in a little bit, maybe in the morning.

Tank ate like crazy after being rescued from Parents tank:

I'm noticing that the Albinos are a tad smaller than wildtypes, but in the Twin set, the Albino started munching first:

This morning, after 9-10 hours with BBS:

I picked up these square glass vases/planters at Dominicks as they were on sale 50% due to all store closings.

Tank is in one
Twins are in one
The community + frat1 are together in one now as well

I have a total of 17 hatched (plus deformed one. :/) and 9+frat2 still to go. 3 more hatched this morning tightening up those numbers.

Most BBS appeared to not be swimming anymore after 10 or so hours. Is this a normal time frame?

25 hatched, 3 more to go.

Aaaaand done! All hatched. 27+1 deformed. That's 31 eggs I kept, so of 25 main one didn't make it, one died after hatching, leaving 23. Of the 6 maybes, 4 good, one bad, one deformed.
