Question: Blue axolotls?

Chances are you will never get another animal like that. If you do you are going to make a nice piece of change. I can see you selling the first dozen for a 150 each at first to all the professional breeders.

Whoa, seriously? That's a little much haha. I'm mainly interested in the genetics of this particular axie. Then again, I haven't done much research on prices.

Wow, very cool coloration! That is awesome :D

How much you want for it?

I wouldn't want to sell her, but I will (most likely) be selling larvae in the spring. Nothing is set in stone (like prices and such), as I don't know the cost of shipping them vs. the amount the stores around me will pay. I will keep you informed if you want.

Sure crappy looking Coppers are being sold for 125.00. Your animal is a 100 times nicer than those. If you could produce offspring that look like her you could get 150 maybe more. The problem would be in a year they would be worth 50 after everyone else was producing them. I hope things work out for you. That would be a incredible color morph for the hobby. Plus you get to name the color after yourself.....lol.

Thanks for the compliments and enlightening perspective. I had no idea coppers were that much. Hmmm... What would I call this coloration? Haha

Blotched melanoid?

Hey, I think coppers are pretty! Of course, Ant's melanoid is much more unique :)

I'd be straightforward with the name haha. "Blue Spotted Melanoid"

That way, when people hear the name, they know exactly what you're claiming it is and will want to see it for themselves.

The only other name I could think of would be "Galaxy Axolotl", because the word "galaxy" is tossed around a lot to describe dark fish with light spots.

I like the word blotched. It sounds weird to me. Blue spotted definitely is straightforward. There was a website that had my picture with my name on it, saying antgarners unusual blue spotted axolotl. Blue blotched axolotl sounds almost like a tongue twister. Haha

It'll end up getting called blue spotted if her larvae inherit the blue coloration, but blotched would be more accurate in describing the pattern. It all depends on what the larvae inherit genetically. They'll end up as Antgarner's melanoids either way, because the only place I'm going to be selling them online is here. Gotta get them to the addicted people first :D

Which store in Portland did you happen to get yours from? Was it pets on broadway? I happen to be from Portland as well, and got some of mine locally.

It was caye's pets on division. She was the only one they had as they haven't had a supplier in a few years. But I know tropical hut (also on division) has some. Although they were in their carnivorous phase. How is the stock at pets on Broadway?

Just read this thread, congratulations on your awesome axolotl, it is a stunner and very unique. Would definetly agree that if you have a successful breeding, then you will be able to demand more than the price of any usual coloured axolotl eggs. stunning Axolotl.

Thanks for the compliments. When I re-read the thread I noticed that I should have put my plans for breeding in the first post. I was thinking of putting more pictures of her on here... Maybe later.

Wow! Your Axolotl is really unique. I'm crrently trying to find a place to buy one, though I doupt it would be as awesome as yours. I hope you have fun with your pet!

Thanks, and good luck to you. I hear it's kind of hard to find them in Canada. Hopefully you'll find a unique one too!

I must say this is the most beautiful axie I've ever seen. I've been partial to the "wild types" before seeing this beautiful girl. I'm wondering why this thread isn't stickied. This is truly a rare creature. I'm extremely jealous that I can't have one just like it. Sorry for not adding much new info to the thread, other than to compliment you.

Sorry for a double post, but I couldn't seem to edit my original one. I would call the coloring Azure Melanoid, or Azure Blotted Melanoid. Sounds a little more interesting than "Blue Blotched"

Thank you. I'm also partial to wild types, which is why I'm breeding her with one. Hopefully, you won't have to be jealous for long. I found some old data suggesting that the gene for blue spots was found in the batch containing the London (L) lethal gene, but they died out. My axolotl is much older than she'd be if she had the lethal gene though, so hopefully this coloration is genetic and not just rarity. Then everyone will be able to get one! :D

Also, here are some more pictures of her and the male.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
