Sand, sand, sand. Wash it, Bake it, Wash it again and put it in your tank. I only burnt myself once too. I think it actually makes the tank look bigger. Here's some pics - it was feeding time

Yea I changed my setup to sand (i had river rocks) because it is so much easier. What happened to your poor leustic! It looks like it got hurt pretty bad or got really sick or something.

If you mean that big chunk out of her tail, she's always had that - must have happened when she was a littlie. Three of her gills have become shorter too over the last couple of weeks, possibly nibbled. She's about 6 years old, so she might not actually grow them back very well. Never mind - she still seems happy

And yes, they always get excited when the Gods (me) provide food for them. They just now trying crickets and they love em.

very very nice were did you end up getting the sand from?

That white sand looks very nice, it really brings out the nice pink color of the white Axies and their fluffy red gills.

Thanks, people.

Nathan - sand from City Farmers - boring old play sand - $3.85 for 20 kg - for some reason they guy discounted the price for me??? Wally.

Yeah, a whole $1.70! Woo-hoo!
Probably coz I'm in there every week seems like buying test kits, or chemicals and they think, - hey here's that chick that keeps spending money.

yep they would remember you and look forward to every time you come in, thats why the work there

Anyway what would they care if you were spending money or not they just work there after all? So it must be a different reason that they want you to come back there hmm.

look at me I should stop I am being immature. Or am I just stating the obvious?

Okay okay, you guys have convinced me to switch to sand. lol. I have riverrock, but siphoning every other day sucks. Maybe I'll put sand in my other tanks too...

was that a pun i detected "Siphoning every other day sucks"

every other day? wow how many are in your tank? I have river stones and only sunction them when I do my 20% change every two weeks and still don't find a real lot in there.

Hmm....is my axie weird? I scoop her uneaten food out in between though with a net, although she tries to eat the net when I am doing it.

The sand looks really good, now I am tempted hmm...

My Axies try to eat my turkey baster, they also try to eat my hand and will follow me around when I am cleaning the tank.

You're not the only one Natasha - I'm amazed by how little waste is left in my tank as well! I don't know (and dont want to know) where it goes.

A word of caution - I'm now starting to register slight ammonia readings I guess because my substrate is gone. I would have thought that my bio-filter would be able to handle it, so I'm having to change a % of the water every day. Hoping this isn't gonna last too long.

hey i could only spot 6 different axies in there i thought you had 8 where are the others?

Anne-Marie, add more decorations. Anything that the bacteria can grow on.

I hadn't meant for the siphon-sucks thing to be punny, but thanks for pointing it out. I lol'ed.

I don't actually siphon every other day, but try to eat least once a week. They poop a lot. And it gets all powdery and in between the rocks. Maybe I'll switch to sand when I move.

Nathan - I got doubles of some types.

Top pic - from left (like a school photo!)
Gleek, Jayna (Wonder twin #1), Bram, Tonantzin, Maya (missing her top hat I'm afraid)

Next pic down - from left
Zan (Wonder Twin #2), Quetzal, Nahuatl.

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
