This is our first successful breeding, both parents are white (not albino)I noticed the sperm floating in the tank this morning, and when I checked them about an hour ago, I looked just in time to see the female laying her third egg!! very cool.

What do you mean you saw sperm floating in the tank?

What do you plan on doing with the eggs?

The sperm things that the male drops for the female to pick up (can't remember the correct name) We are going to keep the eggs, they are my husbands axolotls, and he has always wanted to breed them, so we are going to give it a go. She is still laying, there are roughly about 200 eggs, and she has been laying around 12 hours, how long does it usually take to lay them?

err... too bad you live too far cause unless your keeping all the lil monstars i wouldnt mind buying a white one from you, i've been looking for baby white ones but cant find any near where i live

Lol Elzen, yep, we are a few thousand kilometers too far away for that!! Good luck, I hope you find one.

I am on the look out for a gold one as a surprise for my hubby, you don't see them here very much.

whereabouts are you Elliot as I have several baby white ones which are only 10 weeks old at the moment and will need homes fairly soon.

hi there- it must be kiwi axolotl egg laying season!! our girl has just laid eggs a week ago- her and daddy are only about 9 months old!! totally unexpected... we have about 25 embryos in a wee nursery next to their tank now....next step the shrimp hatchery drama.. ( my hubbies desire not mine!- all sounds like a lot of work)

LOL, I also think it's NZ axie laying season.

My female axies have been laying eggs too,
the little ones are about 3 or so weeks old
and have just been weaned off brineshrimp
onto bloodworms, finally...

The little cuties have also just grown their
front legs and are ready to move out of home
soon.

Djay i live in milton keynes, and im sorry but i cant make any pick ups, cost im too young to drive and my parents are hardly home, but the idea sounds cool though, i wouldnt mind buying one from you, but it looks like ur too far too...

Must be kiwi axie season, lol the people we got the female and a white male, (now deceased due to a PH problem, lucky we didn't lose all of them) a fortnight ago now, had a black pair as well, and they had just laid too!!

I checked the water temp, it is 20 degrees, is that OK for the eggs?

Also, to my horror, yesterday I noticed the female eating some eggs, so I am setting up their tank today to transfer them into. Is this normal?

Mary, I know what you mean, these axies are my husbands pets too, funny that we go and do all the research, though isn't it lol

Yes, if the eggs are left in parent tank, it is normal for the parents to eat eggs, (just another food source).

Try not to add any ph chemicals/ up or down to your tank. There are other ways of raising or lowering ph.

Thanks, I saw the other post. :~)

I have been told to get limestone rocks, but they only do it gradually, and if I don't do it soon, we will lose all our eggs.

our mummy axie seems to be looking through her tank at her babies in the next tank- though she is probably just grumpy she can't get to them to eat them!

Wow, it must be winter time Down Under!!! That's great news. I was just talking to another breeder here in the states about our plans for next breeding season

.
We are just trying to keep our colonies well fed and cooled down. The summer heat caught me off guard, and I did not find homes for 30 cynops e. e. juveniles. Since we don't ship out parcel this time of year, I'll be raising these little buggers until near adult size. My house is turning into a fruit fly paradise with all the cultures I've been rearing.

Oh, the "sperm things" are called spermatophores, just in case you wanted to impress your friends while playing Scrabble

you can see the little frilly gills and eyes on our embryos now!!11 days old...

That's the word I was after!! I have read it often enough to know, I have transferred the parents into another tank, only 2 degrees different in temp, and I think they are at it again!!

Mary that sounds neat, our eggs have already changed shape, I can't wait til they hatch!!

Wow, only 6 days old, and you can already make out their wee heads, tail and where their gills will be!! I hope our shrimp hatchery arrives before they hatch!

the shrimp hatchery is creating shrimps crazily- my husband has it on top of our little benchtop oven- which is on at its lowest heat...

Good one Mary! How are your babies doing?

Ours started moving last night, about every 5 minutes they will sort of flick their tail and head, so quickly though!

We have got ours on top of the fridge, which is in an open plan kitchen dining/ lounge, and have a Yunca fire in the lounge, which we keep going to keep the heat up, it has worked a treat,

and we are going to try the brine shrimpery up there with the tank too, otherwise I will keep that in mind too :~)

I got a real score off trademe, two sea monkey tanks and eggs and food for them for 10.00, so should be able to keep up with the hungry wee mouths.
