Hello everyone. I am very new to this site and this is my very first post! i was wondering if anyone could tell me why axolotls gills turn bright red some times? mine always seem to do it when they are about to eat or after they have finished. does anyone else have this happen to them??

Do you turn red after exercise, in anticipation or after a big meal?
It's just blood flow.

Just as auntiejude said its blood flow. Its completely normal and healthy for this to happen. It generally happens at meal time, spawning, and any other time your Axolotl is partaking in any highly active activities.
