Why can't we move Axolotls to a new habitat

I am not sure it is wise to rely on these type of conservation projects being funded by governments, particularly that of a failing state. This is where education and awareness is key and getting community involvement in such projects. Getting involvement not just from the people of Mexico but people worldwide, raising funds, volunteering, etc. A dedicated group could start up a charity to help with a conservation program. I never said it would be easy though.

I don't think the destruction of habitats and the decline in the number of endangered species is unique to Mexico. This type of habitat destruction is occurring all over the world and many species, not just axolotls, are becoming endangered or closer to extinction as a result. Therefore, I don't think that taking the responsibility away from a community would solve any issues. I think it is better to work with the community. Education and awareness is key and teaching future generations on the importance of looking after the environment and conservation of species, particularly those vulnerable to extinction.

I would expect that an axolotl sanctuary would have to be some distance from Mexico to prevent the destruction of the new habitat. However I think it is important that it is as close as possible to their native habitat. As already mentioned, it would have to be well thought out and planned by experts in the field.

I'm aware it's not just Mexico. And I'm under no illusion that the Mexican government will ever do anything to help. I was simply saying that if there are any reintroduced populations of axolotls in a wild environment, then Mexico should not be the place to have them. It doesn't matter how many experts and conservationists there are helping them in Mexico if they don't get cooperation to provide the resources that are needed. Conservationists can't stop greedy Mexicans from dumping sewage and chemicals into the Xochimilco canals. Only laws can do that, which won't be made, or if they are made, won't be enforced.
