Which newt to get?

I don't mind which type of tank and have never kept newts/salamanders before. I do like the semi-aquatic tanks although I do not mind having a non-aquatic or fully aquatic setup.

I really like the red backed salamanders aswell. I think they are really cool. Does anyone sell any of these near UK? And are they easy/moderately easy to take care of?

Redbacks are really secretive species. You would rarely see them. And given their small size, they're a little harder to feed. Additionally, they're not available as a captive bred species.

I did research yesterday and worked out I couldn't get them but then when I saw the picture again I just needed to check again :p
 
Actually they are bred in captivity here in europe, although admitedly it´s a rare event. I think there are at least a couple of breeders in the UK that have succeeded, but getting hold of some of those CB babies wouldn´t be that easy.
 
I think that I would like a more outgoing newt/salamander though. Is there anyway you can get the normal smooth newts? Seeing as they are illegal to collect from a pond how would you get any like that. I really like the plain and normal smooth newts :)
