Where do you come from?

It was $100. They send you a DNA test kit. There was a bit of a time line I think but only general in the thousands. It's not exact enough to let me know if I am part Polish vs German, for example, but just what you see on the map. My genetics are pretty standard, and not a lot of mixing in the past, unlike maybe someone whose family went into Asia or somewhere else. Still, it was fun and interesting. Then after that they try to get you to join a site where you can link up with people in your group. I'd rather social network by interests and humor than by who is in my haplogroup.

Ah, sure, now that the concept of human races is obsolete and falsifiable, racists need to latch on to haplogroups.

I bet i have a healthy amount of mixing in my dad´s line. Spain has been conquered so many times....
We are the mongrels of europe :p A bit celt, a bit greek, a bit carthaginian, roman, phoenician, visigoth, arab, berber....

I'm english.

My mum is one of those people that likes tracing family trees and stuff (yawn). Our family name can be traced back to the 1500's, and it's origins point to a specific area. An area that I've always lived around 5 miles from. I guess my family is an unadventurous lot.

Me and Johan are both born and raised in the Netherlands (the west).

I did the DNA testing too, it's called the national genographic project..

The 7 woman are called "the seven daughters of Eve" and lead to a specific clan each. Mine was the Helena clan if I remember right and the lineage started in Africa, went through south europe, eastern europe and ended in the west of europe.
If you are a woman you can only test you maternal (mothers) side and if you are male you can test both.

This is how I usually think of the British and why I find English nationalism so ridiculous. We were invaded so many times in the last two thousand years we are genetically muddy.

I'm American, born and raised.

Heritage wise, dad's side is Scot/Irish (great-grandparents were immigrants from Scotland, from Irish stock), mom's side is English (to the best of my knowledge).

Living in England, but descended from Irish. Bit of spanish blood somewhere along the family line, so I'm pale, but have dark hair :)

To be fair, everybody is genetically muddy. There is no such thing as a pure lineage (not even through recent, extensive inbreeding, because it would only represent a fraction of the genetic history), but yeah, i agree with your sentiment :D The only kind of nationalism i could possibly consider is based on culture and even that is flimsy, but based on ethnicity, it´s a most ridiculous thing.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
