Hi, I would like to know how do you feed tour triturus!! I feed them with chicken meat, california worms(as we call them in Brasil, in the USA and England I think you call them "nightcrawlers") and fish pellets... Tell me what your triturus like to eat in the terrestrial and in the aquatic period! (If you can, make a description of the bug/worm that you is talking, because they could have different names for me!) Thanks!!!

i feed mine almost exclusively on earthworms (aka nightcrawlers) with the odd slug every so often.

Hello Felipe,
when they are terrestrial, they also feed on crickets (Acheta). When they are aquatic, they also like larvae of midges (bloodworms?)or Gammarus (small crustaceans, I dont know if you get them in Brazil). A very good food for many aquatic newts (Cynops, Pleurodeles)when I dont have live food is frozen Artemia, I think aquatic Triturus should also take them.

Here in Brasil we have Gammarus, but only dehydrated, they are sold as turtle food here! I used to give them frozen bloodworms or live artemia, but they are too small for my triturus, and I stop to feed them with this... I will try crickets now...but I think they will get scared!!! The pleurodeles eat crickets too?
