Question: What have I got?

No, it is in reference to the natural cycle of harmful chemicals being broke down. When a tank isn't cycled, ammonia and nitrite levels build very quickly and these are toxic to aquatic newts. When your tank is cycled, you have good bacteria breaking these toxins down. So until your tank is cycled properly, you need to do daily water changes.

Here is a great writeup better explaining . . .

Good Luck! (Great newts btw!!)

Be careful - they could drown! I know this sounds contradictory, but even aquatic newts can drown, and if they are in a weakened state, I would worry about this.

Just dont tell my mother that. 7 years old I found a tiny froglet in the garden, 'put it in the pond' says my brother 'is it old enough to swim?' says my mom. 15 years on and she's still being mocked for that one.

Dogmatix, are they feeding? Chopped night crawlers tend to go down quite well with mine(though I've yet to find something they wont try and eat, my fingers included).

Well at the mo, they just seem to be exploring there new tank really...

Currently one is sat vertical with rear and tail on the floor, and its nose out in the air.
I dropped some Wax Worms into the tank around 2pm this afternoon, and so far, only 1 has disappared, I've not seen them eat yet.

But tbh I am not too worried right now about them eatting, everythings new to them, I mean, they have actually felt water!!

If they don't start eatting with a few days, then I'll start to worry, but I do have some Lug Worm (Garden worms) I use for fishing, I might chopped up and wash next, and make a little "ring" So that food can be easily cleaned, and moitored.

I do own a Map Turtle too, so I do know about the water "cycling" I've just never heard it being known as cycling.

Only problem thats worrying me now, is like a black Rash on the belly of the one... ook for previous thread titled "Is Sid ok".

Thanks so much guys for all your help again!
Just thought I'd let you know how they were getting on :D

I'm glad they're doing well. They looked so dried out and sad in those first pictures - they're really lucky newts.
