I believe that over in your country people breed bettas. They often use mozzie larvae to feed them. If not, get a fine net and go down to a ditch after getting sprayed with bug spray. A few sweeps in the summer would prolly be good for a few days or two depending on how many critters you are feeding

Actually, as I've mentioned earlier, I don't really know where the mozzies breed. My only guess is in monsoon drains, which are very deep, some about 6 feet deep and VERY stinky. I don't think I'm up for it. Those drains are the only ones with stagnant water AFAIK. Other shallower drains are usually dry.
On the other hand, I tried recently smacked mozzies. The newts wanted to eat, snapped at them, but they floated away, so they couldn't catch them, and subsequently gave up. Darn!

Hey Sharon
I just realized your from AZ. There's a pet shop in Mesa that sells live blackworms but they call them tubifex, pretty cheap too. They also have earthworms, but I can't remember how much they want for them. If you have a cooler or better yet a portable fridge you could buy them up here if your local pet shop doesn't have any. This place also offers a range in size of crickets, but you'd probably have to put them in like a critter keeper so they could breathe for a long ride and then I don't know if the car's AC would be enough. If you decide you want the name of the pet shop I'm talking about e-mail me

Hi Jessica,

Thanks for the info. Phoenix is about 400 miles away, BUT we are heading up there to look at buying a truck.

There is also a reptile specialty shop in Tucson, (150 miles away) that often carries live worms, fruit flies, and varying sizes of crickets.

My local petstore will usually special order anything I want. I forgot to ask if they could get live black worms. :::: sigh :::: it would be nice if shops and people could stick to one name for all the various worms!

Send me the name anyway would you please? I plan on checking out as many petshops as I can for unusual species while I'm up there anyway! Maybe I'll find a nice interesting tropical fish for my fish tanks! Mesa does have two dealerships we plan on being at anyway.

Sharon
