Photo: Weird Eggs

Dan, those large cloudy eggs are no longer viable and they will begin developing fur coats very soon, please remove them...put them in another container and observe them there if it helps. I have never seen so many eggs together in such poor condition, something has obviously affected the whole batch. I'd demand a refund if I were you. As someone who has sold eggs on ebay, I'd have no hesitation in reimbursing you after seeing those pictures.

The eggs in Dan's pictures, that are not blown, look to be around 24 - 48 hours old(upto 2 days max). Steph's pictures are consistent with eggs of about 96 - 120 hours old (4 - 5 days) and seem to be developing normally to me. If the eggs are from the same spawning then something clearly happened to Dan's eggs between 24 and 48 hours after laying which lead to developmental arrest.

Hi Steph, are these pictures 3 days on from the last lot? It's really hard to see if they have developed at all - have they turned white or are we seeing their undersides? I'm afraid I don't see the "bleeding".

Check out these developmental pictures to see how yours compare.

Ron.

eggs are around 13 days old seller said they was laid on the 24th june.
its not looking good for them afew of the eggs are turning black the temp on the small platsic tank is 18c so its not down to that, theirs a fan over them.
my eggs spent 4 days in the post over the weekend when we had the really hot days.
it maybe down to that, but seller says not.

I separated them a few days ago when you told me but they still haven't developed since the first pictures and still look the same. I can't really get a refund as the person selling them probably didn't know if they were going to hatch or not, still waiting for a response to the message I sent him/her.

pic was taken today its hard to see anything now as there seems to be more egg then baby, the red has turned black and its on the side of most of the eggs it did start under their bellies but its starting to cover over the side of the eggs
dont think they will hatch
yes axolotls they are turning white, eggs going black

14 days from laying I would expect to see better developed larva. I would remove the any that look bad, and keep the rest a little longer, you never know. I suspect 4 days in the post, while its been so hot has not helped at all. How where they packaged?

I can't believe anyone would post eggs over the weekend - were they posted 1st class, next working day? I know one person that's been selling eggs recently on ebay also advertises in the classified section of this forum - I think they actually bought eggs off me a few months back. I really hope it's a different seller because quite frankly I'm disgusted. There's no excuse for sending them when he did, other than for monetary gain. We all knew there was going to be a heatwave - it makes me sick. Please go back and add a note on this clown's feedback letting others know that none of the eggs survived. Maybe it will make him rethink his priorities.

In a small cup container thing. Mine had been damaged a bit and had leaked a bit. Before when I raised them they were in a bag and then another bag contained in a polystyrene cup container.

Well I'm very glad to say that I have no idea who that seller is.

Hopefully, neutral or even negative feedback will force him to take more care next time.

Good luck with getting a refund.

Last night as i was trying to take better pic and almost dropping camera into the tank, i moved some java moss to find a little egg that had a little formed axolotl inside he gave a little wiggle of his tail  he didn't like the bright flash of the camera
He looks like he is days from hatching, I will post some pic of him if or when he does,
Bless him,
Ive moved him out from the other eggs

I'm glad you are having better luck than me! I am gutted about this, and I can't find any eggs for sale anywhere else :(

I have 6, 1 week old hatchlings that I could do without if you fancy a drive to Lancashire. 4 wild type and 2 golden albinos free to a good home.

I don't have a car at the moment, so the only way I could probably collect them is by train. Do your axies lay eggs often?

Hi Dan,

Kylie, my golden albino female has laid three times over the last year, Blade, one of my leucistic females has laid twice and Gilbit has laid once. I am in the process of separating girls and boys (actually doing it now) because I don't want them to lay any more. I've been told that laying eggs takes a lot out of the females and I really don't want to cause my pets any physical distress.

I will probably try to breed from leucistic males and females during the winter when I have hopefully rehomed the fry, babies and juveniles I'm currently rearing.

Ron

I didn't know that, I think I have a male melanoid and female leucistic although its hard to tell as they are young so hopefully they may lay some in about a years time from now. I would like to have some wild eggs this time as I had leucistic in my first batch of eggs.

This is very unfortunate!
Sorry to you both for your losses, it is very upsetting and dissapointing. Glad you may have one steph!

I hope this doessn't put people off trying to raise from eggs, as its not that hard to do if you get decent eggs.

Have either of you heard back from the seller.

When i sent my eggs out in the spring, obviously the weather was less warm but one batch took about 4 days to get there and i hadn't heard there were any problems with them.

Good luck next time guys. Hopefully my lovelies will breed again soon and you'll both be welcome to some eggs.

Mel

I've had nothing back, I'm begining to think the seller gave me some rotten eggs on purpose now.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
