Video of wild Spanish ribbed newt (pleurodeles waltl)

Re: Video of wild Spanish ribered newt (pleurodels waltl)

Quite a bit drier than i would have imagined...
I love these guys!

I really liked that video. I'm glad it had a happy ending! (that he went back in the water)

Nice video. Did you guys take him out of the water or did he do that out of his own?

I like the video. Is it typical for a ribbed newt to walk across dry land like that? I have lots of ribbed newts but mine are almost always in water.

In captivity, those guys are higly aquatic, so I guess they only get on land when their habitat dries up, which, judging by the species distribution, must happen often for the populations that do not live in lake/reservoirs...

They go terrestrial when the masses of water dry up or become inhabitable (Mind you they prefer permanent bodies of water and the animals found on land are usually migrating to other habitats). Some populations also aestivate on land. Juveniles are particularly prone to venturing on land.
As always, captivity allows this species, like many others to be 100% aquatic due to the stable conditions, although when conditions are good in the wild, they too are 100% aquatic.
