thanks- he is such a wee thing- only the size of a week old baby- but we see him eating the odd daphnia- wish he could get onto the blood worms but he just runs away when i dangle one in front. he's just too small still.
At least he is eating the daphnia, better than nothing . I've been helping my sisters out feeding their baby axies, and we've also had 1 or 2 bad batches and had to resort to buying frozen bloodworm cube and, thanks Deb doing what you suggested and mashing them up (works a treat, at least some of them managed to eat them).
All the best with your teeny one. I can hardly believe these muscle-bound little monsters all over my house were once that small! We still have 28 14-week juveniles. I'm taking half that number to a local pet shop tomorrow (has its own axies and looks after them well). The rest are going to be 'minded' by a generous friend who is moving into our house while we are away for a short while. I've told her to consult you guys on the forum if she's worried about anything. Thanks in advance!
I've started feeding small pieces of steak occasionally - does this sound ok? (Hoping Jennifer spots this...) They certainly seem to love it and its not an expensive cut.
Here's a recent photo of an endearing leucistic swimming up to the surface to check if I have food.
Apparently some axies just don't thrive. Once he/she can eat more 'meaty' stuff I think you'll see some real growth spurts. I'm sure most axies in our pet shops are fairly closely related.
hi- i saw your comment re feeding steak- yes our grown-up axies love a bit of raw meat- i give them wee snippets of what we're having for tea! raw schnitzel, chicken and fish....used to do mince but its quite fatty and messy to fed- falls apart.
hi there! the wee babe is still with us! he has grown a wee bit- i wish he would show some interest in blood worms but i guess he is still too small!! he must be a month old and is only about an inch long tops...
update-the wee baby is finally growing and is snapping at blood worms at last- even sprouting wee back legs....his mummy is watching him lovingly from her neighbouring tank.
glad to see that she/he pulled through
im getting some eggs posted soon, but im ready, with loads of daphnia, coz ive never managed to hatch brineshrimp successfully
