Triturus mormoratus set-up.

Hello, I have a Triturus mormoratus in a full terrestrial set-up since I got it as a juvenile. It has grown a lot in the past 6 months and will be one year old this Spring. I was wondering if I should provide to him soon a semi aquatic set-up so he could enjoy a swim once in a while... any suggestions? Thanks.

I used to keep mine in a terrestrial set up. I then added quite a deep water bowl and noticed one of my three would spend quite some time lurking in it. I then moved them into a slightly bigger set up which had a a plant pot dish island and water at about two inches deep. I had lots of elodea and stones in the water, as I was fussing about them not being able to swim. Needless to say they can , so I raised the island and now they spend all their time happily swimming.
My first newt that went in full time, was the male that went into breeding mode. The second male has not really developed the crest and the female hopped in last.

I have a sibling of Julia's newts and introduced him to water a bit sooner. He took his time but eventually became fully aquatic. I started off with a very shallow set-up and gradually added more water when he was spending more time in it. I am currently water-training my 4 other marmoratus - they are probably the same age as yours.
