Do they come back out from there burrows when the temperature moves back above freezing? or do they stay underground all winter like they do in Michigan?
well the trip was semi-succesful. I did see northern slimy salamanders and dusky salamanders but no marbleds. That species will just keep eluding me i guess. I wanted to thank all for the great advice for places to stop and look. hopefully i'll get a chance to go down there again.
That's too bad about the marbles. I was out yesterday and saw spotted, marbles, two-lined, duskies and slimies. The weather has been extremely favorable for caudates lately.
Yesterday I found five Northern Slimy Salamanders and they are very abundant right now. Also found three Southern Redbacks. It is really rainny right now and I am waiting for the male spotteds to arrive at the ponds now. They still haven't come yet. Hey does anyone how abundant the spotteds near them right now. I live just outside of Atlanta, in Marietta.
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
