Trip down to Florida

Do they come back out from there burrows when the temperature moves back above freezing? or do they stay underground all winter like they do in Michigan?

Been in the mid 60s this week, but I haven't seen anyone. Maybe if it rains.

Sorry I can't be of more help,
John

well the trip was semi-succesful. I did see northern slimy salamanders and dusky salamanders but no marbleds. That species will just keep eluding me i guess. I wanted to thank all for the great advice for places to stop and look. hopefully i'll get a chance to go down there again.

Don't you mean the Southeastern Slimy Salamander? The Northern species does not live in Florida.

That's too bad about the marbles. I was out yesterday and saw spotted, marbles, two-lined, duskies and slimies. The weather has been extremely favorable for caudates lately.

dang it all... you wouldn't want to send some up here would ya? j/k i just picked the wrong week to go.

Yesterday I found five Northern Slimy Salamanders and they are very abundant right now. Also found three Southern Redbacks. It is really rainny right now and I am waiting for the male spotteds to arrive at the ponds now. They still haven't come yet. Hey does anyone how abundant the spotteds near them right now. I live just outside of Atlanta, in Marietta.

I know i may sound like one of the biggest losers in asking this but what on earth is 'herping'?

You see i come from a little island in scotland... I dont know much about what is going on here! *Feels deprived :p*

"Herping" is going out and looking for species of reptiles and amphibians.
