The Caudata Haiku thread

I actually forwarded that one on to a friend (non-member) who is appreciative of both slimy critters, and cleverly written poetry.

I LOLed.

appreciative of both slimy critters, and cleverly written poetry.

A winning combination which must be frustratingly difficult to satisfy in one go. Until now.

So eager, ain't he?
Now where on earth did he drop
that spermatophore?

What is that weird stuff?
The question is: poop or barf.
It's no matter. Gross!

Never in the air.
Feasting; Breeding; Loving life.
Tank bound little babes.

I'm glad he's rethinking his eating habits while captive in the fridge.

my little tiger
though you may like the water
please live on land now

Steep wall of glass
You foil my plans for now
Soon I will climb you

I lived in water
Back when I was a larva
Now I prefer land

Springtime is now here
Into the water I go
Why hello ladies

dearest nintendo
salamander pokemon.
please consider it

Did you know there is a pokemon that is an exploded bag of trash, but no salamander? Really now. (Well, Wooper's sorta an Axolotl, and Charmander sort of sounds like salamander... But he is a lizard.) 649 and still no salamander.

Mudkip is based on axolotls!!! XD

Well, looks like someone needs to revive this thread! These Haikus are awesome! Time for me to give it a go.

Peering through the moss
Desmognathus stares at me
What are you thinking?

My inspiration for this Haiku came directly from my Desmognathus orestes. I checked on them this morning and the smallest specimen was peering at me from under a clump of moss.

Neurergus strauchii:
Polka dots! Oh, polka dots!
I see polka dots.

eating his sibling:
Hannibal the Cannibal,
one fat happy morph!

Do newts ever fart?
While cleaning their tank, I saw
a small bubble rise

My three Marshmellows,
I love you axolotls,
but worms are meager.

Edit: I call my axolotls My Marshmellows, because they are all mushy, sweet things.

For Orzarkhellbender!

Out of extent now,

Thomas has an addiction,
To Salamanders.

Rock flipping softly,
Looking for salamanders,
This is called herping.

Axies are Caudates,
Amphibians, and are Sals,
Do not call them fish!

I follow your eyes,
And each time they say to me
“I am SO sticky.”

I wish I could remember the salamander sex haiku that my friend wrote for me.

Axolotl Sex,
Oh Baby, it's so slimy
Spermatophores rage.

Axies Doing Yoga
Standing on the green plant leaves
Tones Wrinkly Stomachs

Dearest Tyra, your
face smushed to glass is so cute
but you'll get no food

Sexy Enrique,
Your squirmy antics aren't chill
Tyra won't love you

Juveniles Logging
Floating up to the tank top
Axies Hanging out

Slimy Tyra Banks
Your new corn rows don't suit you
Grow back your gills, please

When worms come to town,
Axies lose all their manners
Stop biting my hand

Walking to my dorm
Turkey baster in my hand
is embarrassing.

Water change mess,
friend thought she peed her pants, my!
Don't sit next to tanks.

I could do this all day. Axolotl haikus will be my next term paper.

Slavishly I hold
Live foods, in icy water
Please eat soon, bubby.

Or...

There's this 'lotl in old London town,
Who's coloured pink, but his missus was brown.
Said his missus "Why fella,"
"Seems our babies are yeller"
"One might think I'd been messin' aroun!"

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
