OK, I'm using the image tag with photos I posted in the gallery, but they just show up as links. What's up?

You need to use the direct link to the JPEG file, not the one that ends in file.php etc.
See the link on the bottom of your photo detail page (used random photo here): http://www.caudata.org/photoplog/index.php?n=922
Which is: http://www.caudata.org/photoplog/file_922.jpg
Add img tags and:

Thanks. I actually went in and changed my profile option so I could just tag them from the gallery.
