Tank almost cycled + New family addition

Hey Stipe, thanks!

Do you know what species that is?

I'm so going to try this, but I'm going to use the smallest type of fishing line. I think it's 50lb or something... I don't remember lol.

I'm also going to tie in a lot of java moss in with the plants, make it look like a little aquatic forest

Sounds nice, i might try that on day after i get some moss. That fishing stringis ok jsut remember that the thinner the string is the easyer it can slice through the roots o watch out.

Unfortuantly no i dont know what species it is but i can get a picture of where it came from (my other rock) so you might know

If you use string for sewing, this will dissolve on its own, letting just enough time go by to let the roots get attached to the wood.

If you have an active bacterial culture in your tank (proper cycled) I don't think you will notice any difference. As long as the thread is cotton and not polluted I think it will be just fine.

i was thinking more bout the die and that other artificial stuff used in it.

yes, I haven't noticed any side effects of this. You could use non colored cotton string...

I once tried black sewing thread, but it turned light blue after some days. Guess it was the color disappering. I couldn't tell any difference in water quality by testing, and none got sick or died. After a month, there was not a single sign of the thread.

Ah, silly me. I was thinking of the rubber string stuff to make bracelets when I said the smallest stuff.

At craft stores they sell stuff that looks like fishing line, but it is really rubbery and I think it will work really well. Since it is also rubber, it will also rot off eventually.

Tina - I also might try the thread, that also sounds like a really great idea

. I will try both methods and see which I have the most success with

the 2 black? ones near the front look more like a 2 headed axie, the way they blend into each other.

How I would Love to have that many... smiles

Wow - look at them all.
They have the whole tank and they are all in one corner LOL

lol yup, i think it's rather ironic, nice big tank with lots of hidey holes and they all end up at one end playing stacks on.

there's six actually one black one, one brown, one white albino, one yellow, one leucistic and one dark green spotty wild type (she's the biggest at 8 1/2" all except the leucistic are around 7 1/2").

I was a bit paranoid at first at the size of my partner's girls but they all seem to be getting on quite well and don't seem to get snappy at one another at mealtime.

The brown one and yin have taken to sleeping up in the plants of a nighttime about a 1cm from the surface.

Sadly i'm yet to see any gill regrowth on my albino and am starting to have doubts about whether there will be any at all, but the rest have been regrowing their gills quite well.

My black one has had a bit of skin peeling happening, as to why i have no idea as all my test results have come back fine, he's regrowing his gills and eating well so who knows.

Sin, how big is your tank? (Sorry - just incase its somewhere and i missed it).

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
