Day 26 and still waiting for the tank to cycle, I'm hoping that by the end of the week things will be just about ready to introduce the kiddies to their new tank. In the mean time i thought i'd post a picture of the modifications, we've finally got the chiller running on the tank, the background and a canister filter.

Also, I've got a new addition to the family thanks to my partner's announcement yesterday in the pet store of the conditions of another axie "you must call him banana boy", so banana boy it is

and he's in quarantine at the moment.

I can't wait to finally post the pictures when the tank has been occupied.

sin sister your tank looks great, but can you post a closer picture of your tank please. r they real plants or fake. i bet your axies r goin to love it. i just had my canister filter delivered but im still waiting for my chiller to arrive. i have been to all the pet shops in town and none of them have any great stuff but i have to start cycling my tank soon anyway. i hope mine looks that good

very nice looking tank!. i bet your axies will love all the hiding spots and plants to lay around in lol, i also have a little cave thing like you do and my axies love it.

banana boy is a very bright colour, i wish golden albinos were as common here as they are were you live.

could you please post some pics of your chiller and cannister filter and like denise said some close ups of the tank. thanks alex.

Hey denise, yup the plants are real, i've had a couple of losses with plants but that's mainly been down to temperature, some days it's been 32 degrees +, i'm going to replace them when it's fully cycled and at the right temperature. The wisteria in the back right hand corner i don't think i could kill it if I tried, it grows like mad. You're gonna love your chiller, especially being in Cairns, it takes so much stress out of it for both you and the axies. Basically there's not much in the tank aside from two bits of driftwood that we joined together, the rocks i gathered from the beach, the log was from my old tank and i had a couple of plants that were growing on logs and we just put a bunch of different plants in. We've just put a growlux tube in for lighting today so i say all the plants will go nuts with it now.

thnx alex, you should see 4 axies decide that they all want to go into that cave. My partner doesn't call them staxies for no reason, they're always sitting on top of each other. He made the joke of when we put them in the big tank they're probably still going to do the same.

Any way, here's the canister filter i've got tucked away in the cabinet

and the chiller, which will be relocated once i move some furniture around so it's got some proper ventilation and the electricals are in a safer place.

Sin Sister, your tank is beautiful! Great work, Have some questions for ya

Did you plant the plants on the wood your self, or did you buy it that way? If you did get it grow that way, how did you go about doing it? I think I might get some wood and try that.

Also, can you give me the names of the plants that you are having success with and which ones you aren't?

Right now I have several large rocks in my tank that I plan to get my java moss to sprout over.

I also plan to get some more plants here in the near future.

its seem you have everything sorted in that tank lol. the plants look really good. what are the names of the plants?.

sin sister my canister filter arrived today and its the same as yours, i am so happy but still waiting on my chiller. thanks for the close up of your tank.

Rheann - not all plants are good at growing on logs. THe one that you'll have most succes with are the anubis(if thats how you spell it) species. They take a month or so to attach to a log or rock after they've been tied down. The trick is to use fishing line not cotton or other strings ( i donno why strings other than fishing string dont work for me.) Tie it down gently so there is no string cutting into the roots, spread the roots out aswell.

About a year ago, I tied several small anubius to my bog log, exactly as Stipe has told you . it looks great, and is easy to do. They take hold pretty easily and flourish.

thnx for the kind words everyone. i've got two small bits of driftwood in there with anubis growing on there, my better half bought me one for a pressie and the other i bought from a pet store, the one on the big log, i've tied there myself same as what stipe has described, works out heaps cheaper than buying them. both of the smaller logs i've positioned on the big log which gives the illusion that it's actually attached but really the smaller bit of driftwood is just sitting there. I've got some java moss in the corner that you can't really see tied to a rock with rubber bands.

i found this website a wealth of info in regards to landscaping:

http://www.wetpetz.com/plant.htm

The plants i've had which have perished is a red leafed plant, and a small leafy one that's in the right hand corner, but as i said, i've been putting it down to temperature as the tank has been up to 32 degrees plus some days while it's been cycling since the chiller was on the small tank, i'm going to replace them when i get the temperature down, other than that i really haven't had anything else die. The spath (the really big one at the back on the left hand side has been doing really well.

Thanks Stipe, Theresa, and Sin Sister

. I am so going to try this!

Sin Sister, I'll check out the link you provided. I saw on a website where they had the driftwood with Anubis, but it was so expensive. Buying some Anubis, a few pieces of driftwood and some fishing line will be MUCH cheaper. I'm going to try try this very soon

Thanks again

and wahoo! i'm finally happy to report that the tank has finished cycling and the tank now has one occupant. When I put my albino in, he started running around with this look on his face which looked like he was thinking "oh my god, OH MY GOD!!" LOL.. can't wait to start adding the others.

ohh cool... post some more pics (if you can) once all the little ones are in. I love seeing axies explore their new homes!!

hey Rheann i found this litle plant just clinging on to the side of one of my driftwoods and i thought i would give him a proper home, look how i tied him up, hope this helps you.
