T. marmoratus beginning the aquatic period

T. marmoratus goes to the ponds and streams at the end of the autumn ( december/january )

A friend of mine lives in France (www.tigouleix.nl) and he has noted the same phenomenon. But...there not all animals go into water. It seems a part of the population hibernates in the water to be the first around in spring, while the other part waits for spring time and stays on land. It seems like two strategies can be present.
 
That's really interesting Sergé... here, more than strategy to find female, is the natural cycle. I think regards to the temperature and mainly, the rainfalls: At the sea level goes to the ponds in october, between 700-1.000 m. at december, over 1.200 they must wait to spring. February-march are the months in which this newt can be found everywhere, but in the place of the photograph, with a long very dry/warm period marmoratus starts the migration to the ponds ( even freezing in winter )
