T.d.dobrogicus female, rapidly deteriorating.

Hey Azhael. I have one male alpestris like your female dobro. They both have serious worm problems no doubt. Panacur will solve it will no problem. The thing is that i dont have acess to this drug. If you do have acess then try using it. Other way around sjhe´ll not make it like my male too:( fungus on tail is bad. For that remove her from water and keep her on ppr towels. I´ve had same problem with a female paramesotriton and got it solved like this.
Hope It helped.

Cheers Cherry.

Jorge, i don´t think this is a case of parasites, at least certainly not worms. In her state, a Panacur treatment will kill her for sure anyway...
I believe i do know how to treat a fungal infection...but i´m not going to. I don´t wish to cause her any more distress. I just want it to stop...she is very obviously wasted beyond recovery.
I´ll say goodbye and euthanize her tonight. Life is life....stuff happens....at least she got a nice life and left healthy offspring behind.

I agree. Anyways i dont understand why you say its definitely not worms if the cause is completely sure worms... Newts don't stay like that normally or with fungi or bacteria. Clearly worms or protozoan but i make a way bigger bet in worms for sure.

I say it´s not worms because i have examined her depositions. I did so when i started to realize that she was loosing weight way too fast. I didn´t find any sign whatsoever of worms in the feces...nothing. Now, i know i´m no expert, but i knew what i was supossed to be looking for.

Anyway, it´s over.

Oh! It's a pity that no other option you have left and also not really know that happens ...
Greetings.

I'm sorry that she didn't make it. Is there a possibility of postmortem? As you say, at least she has left lots of offspring behind.

Chris

Cr**...i knew there was something i was forgetting. I didn´t have the money to take the body to a vet, but i could have made an exam myself, to the best of my habilities. I buried the body last night in a flower pot, by now a necropsy would be impossible...

Azhael, I am sorry to hear that she is now gone, and no more could be done for her. Given all the very helpful information you have given myself and others, I have no doubts whatsoever that you have given her the best life she could've had, and did everything to ensure her health and happiness. And in the end I am sure you chose to do what was best for her in this situation. My sincerest condolences for your loss.
