Hi.
I have just bought a sexed pair of T.carnifex.
Since the day they arrived (1 week and a half) I have often caught them in courtship.
The male is with that position like a bridge and fanning the tail towards the female.
She often doesn’t care. Usually I get them afternoon doing this. And since they arrived courtship numbers have been increasingly frequent. I decided to post this because I am worried about what I saw today. As the female don´t care him, He has been violent to her hitting her with any part of his body, usually with the head, swimming too fast for her and “booom” takes her several centimetres behind, starting then a new “show”.

Worries me because I´ve read that if a salamander mates successfully it no longer grows more. The problem is precisely that. They are a very young couple with the male 10cm and 11cm the female. Compared with my T.marmoratus they are complete dwarfs. How I want to develop them well, should separate them for a while to not mating?

If your female is not ready to breed and is showing absolutely no interest, then I would separate them. It's possible for her to get injured or simply harrassed to the point where she can't feed effectively.

thanks Erin , but if I separate them when do I join them to breed? I separate them and put them terrestrial (separatly) or Aquatic?

Carnifex are naturally a bit smaller than marmoratus. The tail fanning you described sounds perfectly normal for any crested male, it can look violent, but it's totally safe.

If she's too young she won't lay eggs. What length are they?

I've had a lot of newts lay eggs and continue to grow after the fact.
