hey vanessa, i live in cannington...
smile6.gif
and i got my axy's and the sand from pet magic (on the corner of Albany hwy and William st, Cannington, its just in front of WA salvage) if you are close enough to go there, they have heaps of stuff there!!!! But try to avoid any advice they give because everything they told me was wrong and one of my axy's nearly died!!!

. i have to return the gravel that they told me was 'ideal' and swap it for some more sand... And i just remembered they have the same gravel for their axy's!!!! i have to make them use sand and check their tank temps!!! do they not care?? they have so much axy stuff they should use!!!! i'm gonna go there wearing a top that says 'PET SHOP UNDER INVESTIGATION'.... Hee Hee Hee!

They had about three different types of sand when i was there last week. They have frozen axy food, pellets and crickets there too!!! and most of their stuff relates to aquariums, so far i've found everything i need there!!!
Joanne!! i couldn't agree more with that!!!! some pet shop staff have managed to make me a little CRANKY too! careless stupitity!!!

hey jasmine i was wondering when u put your sand in the tank did the water go really cloudy, cause i washed my sand out heaps ansd it still went really cloudy and today its still cloudy but not as bad. does anyone know if theis is normal? i might try pet magic soon cause ive heard that they have some good axies there and i remember that one of the people from the forum gave them some of their axies so it must be okay. have you ever been to vebas aquarium shop in o'connor they are really good too.

hi vanessa, my sand did the same thing, i think its just the sand taking a while to settle. could be the biomass of the sand. the water will eventually go clear.

As for sand, i put it in in a five gallon bucket and rinsed, rinsed, rinsed, rinsed.... came out pretty clear.
As for the red sand.. is it the same as they use for reptiles ? The only red colour i could see here is at petco, and it was in the reptile section.

Hey Vanessa! Hello Alex! Hi Theresa!! now that you's mention it, my water didn't go cloudy at all... i emptied my tank completely, took out the gravel, then put my sand, rocks and trees back in, i stacked 2-3 rocks in one corner, and poured the water real slow over those rocks only, til the water level was bout 10-15cm above the sand (it took some patience)and stuck to the same corner til the tank was full...i put the same water back in the tank too... and my sand never got stirred up, the water was clear pretty much straight away!!!! it was quite a big job! but I can make any simple task harder than it needs to be when i get bored!!!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
