but i would definately get rid of them pebbles....

ooh they look like they've got loads of space and they're both very pretty

on rob's advice, getting rid of the gravel is a very good idea as they tend to eat it unfortunately.

by the pet shop people? .... thats pet shops for you... half of them cant tell a neon from an oscar... sand is the best, or no substrate at all.

it was the same when i first got my axies, i was told to use pebbles by the petshop, but after reading here and was advised to use sand i returned my "used" pebbles for a refund

yea, i would also get rid of those pebbles, sand is the best by far!, easier to see the poos and food and if the axies swallow some by accident it wont harm them as much as a peice of gravel would, other than that you setup looks awesome! i really like the cave type hut in the middle of the tank!

what an excellent idea!!!! returning the gravel, its just sitting in a bucket and makes me angry to see it cause i only had it for 1 or 2 weeks after it was recommended, then got the sand from the same shop!! that's it i'm taking it back cause i'd like some more sand!!! what a great idea!!!!!!

woah big tank! Lots of sand to fill that, I really want to make a huge tank to fit lots of axolotls. Have you only got the one? It's really cute.

A quick note for VANESSE of Waikiki, WA.

CITY FARMERS stores in Perth that have an aquarium section normally have sand. I shop at the Bedford store and they stock it. I also got my 2 axies there and the fish and tanks are always in #A1 condition. The guy who runs the aquarium department breeds fish/axies himself and LOVES them! I guess that's why he takes such good care of the store ones too.

thanks for the info joanne

i went to the city farmers in rockingham and they had two axies in there once, but they had them in a tank with a heater and the temp was at 28 degrees! i made the storeperson take the heater out and told them the heat would kill them.

Sounds like I am lucky to have a good store close by with someone who knows what they are doing. To me it doesn't matter if it's dogs, cats, horses, fish, elephants (etc.) ANY LIVING THING! If you don't know how or aren't prepared to care for it properly you DO NOT deserve one - whatever it is

Sorry, but ppl who are irresponsible like that make me a little CRANKY. YAY for ppl like you though! I have also been known to "crack" it with pet shop staff but I can't help myself. Animals don't deserve to suffer through stupidity and ignorance.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
