 Hey everyone, I just got 2 axolotls yesterday, and when I got home I noticed one has really small legs on one side. At first I thought the other one nipped its legs in the bucket they were in during the drive home, but looking closer I noticed that wasn't the case since it has its toes and everything, just very small. I also thought that maybe it had them nipped before and regrowing them back, but the lady I got them from had each one in their own container. It is almost 6 months old. Let me know what you think please! Thank you!

I am leaning more towards baby cannablism. They may have been in individual containers when you got them but they should be out of their cannabilistic stage already. I found mine started doing serious damage whentheir back legs started to come in an before i seperated them a few have gotten some injuries. I mean it happened so fast. But mine are now all individually seperated but some have no limbs/missing some gills. They are all recovering fine but sometimes genetics makes it so an axolotl isnt as efficient at regenerating limbs and maybe this is the case here.

Do you know what they were being fed/how often? He seems small for 6monthes old. But i guess some do grow at different rates! I have 5week old babies and a few are still so tiny!

They were fed blood worms or pellets once a day...she said they are almost 6 months....but what you said makes sense. So will it ever get normal legs or do I have a special Nemo axolotl. Lol

Feed them lots and lots of earthworms and keep the water clean and hopefully they will keep regenerating and growing :) you can never go wrong with food. I only feed mine once a day but while they are still small you can feed them as much as they can eat(you cant overfeed a juvenile) and trust me they grow crazy fast ifyou feed them lots! It may help him grow his limbs back.
And maybe you do have a nemo axolotl :) who knows. Give him a month or two to see how it goes.
