Hey guys. I've jus put my newly aquired pair of T. Carnifex out for a period of winter cooling. They are C.B 08, i was wondering if anyone knew of this species breeding at this young age? i'm not bothered either way but it would be nice to know if its a posibility?

Cheers.

They can reach sexual maturity in a matter of months, so yes, it's possible. However you should be able to tell if they are mature or not. If they aren't, no cooling will make them breed hehe.

I had some T carnifex that I raised from eggs one year, fed well, and the some of the young matured and actually bred in less than a year, [10 months if I remember correctly]

Cool, cheers for the info guys. Well the male started to crest up as soon as i got them. I take it this is a sure fire sign he's up for a bit of romance? what should i look out for in the female? i'm new to this species so any advice is more than welcome.

Thanks again.

Jus been out giving my t.carnifex who are out for a peroid of winter cooling a partial water change. They are in my garage, outside temperatures over the eight days or so they have been out have ranged from around 4-10 degrees with night time temperatures falling to maybe -2 at the coldest. I realise theses temeperatures will be slightly higher within the confines of my garage, however should these temperatures mean i should maybe limit feeding to once a week or even less? i fed the female an earthworm last thursday and there seemed to be very little fecal matter in the tank tonight, are these conditions cold enough to trouble their digestive system? I realise there is a wealth of knowledge already in the forum and on caudata culture but its always nice to hear from people about their own experiences, even if it is for my own peace of mind.

Cheers.

If they want to eat let them eat some will some will not under certain temperatures.
The males need to eat loads to build up there crest and females to produce eggs.
Good luck.

Thanks for the advice billy (again) oh yeah and thanks for the newts!!!
