Sexing Pachy b's

i am stumped when it comes to pachy b's in sexing them, i cant see much difference at all in their vent sizes. they are not as easy as labiatum, anyone who keeps these ever seen a males vent swollen at all -or even longer? i guess there is a possibility i have all females, but with 8 i think i should have some males in there!

The males (or at least the dominant males) will get tail spots, but they seem faint from my experience. I have 10 specimens and only one has tail spots so maybe it isn't the breeding season yet-I think later this year they will start to show better. I am sure we both have other males that haven't made themselves known yet.

with my labiatum, once they grow into their spots they never loose them, these 'guys' definitely have me stumped, i also have seen no tail wagging-any one else?, and here's the kicker with these-is there a possibility that those we call pachy b's are actually 2 different kinds of pachys? some of mine seem to stay the light to cream coloured phase, but others are capable of colour shift from medium brown to the light -like this one http://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/13/15597.jpg

i cannot help but notice the irony of the picture you posted. The aquapet/ plastic fishtank says "made in china". Well, paddletails are natives of China. That figures!

Paris,

Anything yet on the tails of your Pachytriton "b"? None of mine are showing anything yet, even the confirmed males. I did recently have to remove one animal from a tank with 3 because it was getting stressed by the other 2.

I need to start keeping track of when the spots develop and when they fade......
