Salamander morph help!

Hello Again,
I have just moved jasper into his terrestrial tank. I couldnt find time to go get some top soil, i plan to go get some this weekend so im hoping this will suffice until I can go. Any thoughts? Things to add or fix?

Oh great! I was worried I did something wrong. I just kinda threw it together at the last minute.

Congratulations, based on what you described it sounds like your salamander is fully adapted to terrestrial life and will do just fine in a more land-based tank. Just be sure he always has a nice area to swim around in, but not deep enough to get tired and drown in.

What you have set up looks good. Personally I like to give mine a little more water to swim around in, but I'm sure it's not hugely important.

This is what my setup looks like, & here's how I did it easy, cheap, and without making permanent changes to my tank:

Is he burrowing yet? Mine always like to burrow under their water dish.

Thats whats worrying me. He found his little cave on the left and hasnt left it. hes been kind of trying to burrow in the soil in the cave. Maybe its the security. Is this bad? He came out when I had come up to the tank and started talking to him but its starting to worry me. Any advice?

My tigers both went through a period of wanting to do nothing but stay underground for a couple of weeks after they morphed. I'm sure it's nothing to worry about.

If he feels secure in his cave, he might not burrow. Mine have a half-log they hang out under from time to time, and my jefferson's sal has never once burrowed on her own accord. She prefers to live in half a red solo cup.

Well I hope he feels comfortable soon. He likes to come out if i move the dirt or something or move the lid. Yesterday I was turning the dirt over and he like ran out and started like searching around for food and then crawled in my hand and tried crawling up my arm. It was the oddest thing ever.Once i dropped the worm he snapped it up and ran back to the cave. Really cute

Hahahaha, they are funny aren't they? Glad everything is going well with your new land dwelling friend

Well today my little Jazzy is buried in the soil and I could only tell because his tail was sticking out but im just relieved he has left the cave.

Eating and burrowing already! That's fantastic, Nikki! Most take days-to-weeks before they start eating again.

Really? That is so odd because I didnt see any decline in his appetite. I actually started feeding him more!!

Just goes to show how un-stressed he was by morphing. You did a great job!

Gave Jasper a bath today and a worm to munch on. He seems to be more active today. Burrowing under some moss and swimming.
