Rocky the Snakehead: Fish with a death sentence

Agreed with the above!

Quote from above

"Just go and release it in Onondaga Lake..... Screw the DEC.... Let them go after it if they want it so much...."

Irony of this comment is this is exactly what happens when bans go through. I bet if the people wanting to ban pythons got their way, lots more pythons would be turning up by people attempting to spare their pets from being euthanized.

Also, this fish being a single individual I wonder how many others their are out there? (not parthenogenic, after all. Does it really pose a threat?)

The correct way to euthanize a fish would be an overdose of MS-222 I believe. I know in our aquaculture dept, it is considered inhumane to freeze an animal. Regardless of species.

If it cannot survive the cold, then there is little chance it would have in that area. Dependant on water column temperatures. However, if released during summer, it could stand a chance to cause some havoc.

Let him keep the fish. If he says it dies, make him produce evidence of the body or have a biologist confirm it. Let him get a permit for it, that way big brother can stop weeping.

Sad. I too am waiting to see what comes of the python ban.

Wow though at the $500 a year. Is that really necessary?

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
